This past weekend Christina and I made the trip out to the OBX for a little r&r. With a less than desirable weather forecast, we headed out anyway and were glad we did. We had almost perfect weather the whole time.

Here are a few "standard" images of Currituck from Sunday.

A couple of dune images from the four-wheel drive area.

Looks like you did have a nice day, Stephen. Guess its better to have a lousy forecast but good weather than the other way around!

Probably kind of nice and quiet around there this time of the year.

Nice pics, Stephen! I especially like the composition on the second photo.

Wasn't it nice that the weather cooperated for a change!

Awh......hhhh! An Outer Banks fix in January! Thank you, Thank you!

Looks like you may have been inside the grounds at Currituck?

I was on Cape Cod this past weekend, and one of the things that I noticed was the difference in the "browner" sand dunes as opposed to the "whiter" ones at OBX. Can't wait to get my Jeep back on the 4 wheel drive beach again!

Beautiful pictures, Stephen. smile

Great pictures Stephen-thanks for sharing! I'm envious of the green grass...right now I'm looking at snow! On top of that it's frigid outside. frown

Nice Stephen. I have to agree with Debbie...that green grass looks good this time of year. We are very cold in Utah right now. mad

Beautiful shots! I'm going through OBWithdrawl, I'm telling ya...and I was only there 15 days ago. I've already decided I'm going to move down there one day...though the fact that Currituck County schools are an hour away is a bit problematic...and the airport in Norfolk is two hours away with an almost guaranteed connection somewhere...and New York is 8 hours, and that'd be a really big deal...and I'd need a nice little house in Crested Butte or something to go to in the summer when all the tourists descend...and and and...

BTW, did you go up to Wash Woods and see the new boathouse progress? Curious to see how much further along it is.

Greg,

Where did you get the idea that that was a boat house? It looks nothing like any boat house I have seen. I do have a photo of it somewhere. I will get it posted.

Great pictures, Stephen! All the talk about the Outer Banks brings back fond memories of our visit there during the Tidewater trip. We had a lovely day visiting Currituck, Bodie, Hatteras and Ocracoke, didn't we Judy? We'll have to do that again sometime. cool

Stephen -

Only reason I'm guessing it was a boathouse is because when I was there in April, I saw the permit at the site to "construct historic boathouse on oceanfront lot." (See the photo on Flickr here --> http://flickr.com/photos/seagirtlight/150404306/).

But I'll agree...it's not exactly "boathouse" looking. And not a great replica. Though I guess I'd have to see what the original looks like first. Nonetheless, it's cool that they're building something there...shows that they're putting effort into the property. Hopefully they'll try and restore the lookout tower next...

Greg or Stephen...do either of you have photos of what is being built?

Your photo is much closer than mine.

I will email the Twiddy's and find out what is going on. We got permission to enter both Wash Woods and Kitty Hawk stations but our plans failed to work out.

I will let you know what I find out.
