Just a few of many, many, more images to come from the Keweenaw trip. Friday, 7/30 we stopped in Munising and hiked to Miners Falls in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. I had to wait for the sun to duck under a cloud to prevent overexposure on the top of the falls. This was taken Saturday, July 31, over the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse. The full blue moon was rising behing the lighthouse, and this was almost two hours after sunset. Exposure was 30 seconds at F5.6, ISO 400. Onto a Lake Superior sunset Sunday night 8/1 just outside Eagle Harbor...two images stitched together here. This next one was taken on the boat trip out to Isle Royale of Rock of Ages lighthouse on Tuesday 8/3. What a DAY!

Thanks, John. We stopped at Bond Falls south of Houghton and also in Marquette on the way home Wednesday.

That shot of Houghton is another beauty! Cover shot for LH Digest? Calendar? Greeting Card? Lighthouse Sticker?

It is Marquette!!
Very nice work, Jen!!
These images are an example of why I now own three of your prints... The latest two became mine while on the two cruises, one by silent auction and the other by being lucky enough to have my ticket drawn second (and the person whose ticket was drawn first must have not seen your Bete Grise Lighthouse print before they picked another print)...
You have a great eye which is obvious but you also have patience and timing!
Onward to The Land of the Midnight Sun!

Great shots, Jen! We were on the Keweenaw four years ago and loved it up there! Thanks for refreshing the old memory.

Hi Jen,
Beautiful shots! It was nice to get to know you better. How did your mom's pictures turn out? She was trying so hard. I hope she got some nice ones!
I love your waterfall shot. If you ever want to share some tips on shooting waterfalls, I'm listening...
Thanks again for burning the CD for me.

Tammy, no problem on the CD. Mom's shots came out ok. She just needs to watch her crooked horizon lines! Waterfalls are EASY! I discovered how to shoot them by accident about 10 years ago balancing my camera on a ledge and shooting at 1/4 second. Best time to shoot is early am or about an hour before sunset. I did not have that luxury on this vacation, and we stopped mid-day. Therefore, if you shoot mid-day, you need an ND filter to reduce the amount of light coming into your lens. I had used an ND 1.0, which is four stops (they come in increments of 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, and 1.0) and a polarizer, which is another two stops, for a total of six stops reducing the amount of light coming into the lens. At ISO 100, F22, I still was only able to get down to about 1/2 second! When you shoot in early am or pm you don't have the contrasty light and don't need filters unless you want long exposures, in upwards of 10-15 seconds. If you click the link below my name and check out my Smoky Mountain waterfall shots; those were all done about an hour after sunrise with only a polarizer and I was getting around 10-15 seconds on almost all of them. Like you mentioned earlier; lighting does make a difference.

Passage Island Panoramic - three images stiched together. Sorry it's so small. The detail in this image is amaizing when it's blown up. It's over 9000 pixels wide!

Jen,
Thanks for the waterfall tips. It's hard for me to keep the horizon straight while I'm on a boat. I have to adjust some of my pictures.
Your panoramic shot of Passage Island is very cool. I'll have to try that sometime. I watched you taking shots once. I'm not sure if it was Passage Island. It seems it would be difficult to do without a tripod.

I had to rotate several of mine just about a 1/2 degree to get them on. Panoramics are hard without a tripod. I was off about an inch either way on the two end shots. And the tonality change of blue in the middle is from my polarizer. I don't think it looks too bad, but the polarizer made such a huge difference out there that I was willing to live with the tonality difference.

Likewise, Ron! I'd love to see some of yours, too! Here is another panoramic of Menagerie; two horizontal images stitched together...
