I decided to drive up to Manistee tonight, about 90 miles away.


Shot about 1/2 hour after sunset.


This was shot from the south pier opposite the lighthouse about two hours after sunset. Man, what an incredibly clear night! Too bad the aurora borealis wasn't out...needless to say I will be traversing back if they do!

Very nice Jen. Great photos! The one with the stars, was that a time exposure. I've never seen a photo of stars so clear.

And how long a time exposure does the Rebel allow?

Hi guys! "Under the Stars at Manistee Lighthouse" was a one minute exposure at ISO 400. The Rebel will go as long as I want it to, but due to noise (grain) factors, I try to keep them one minute or less. John, there were fishermen out on the end of the pier and they had lights out. Too bad I couldn't have gotten rid of them but they worked out ok for the star shot. Here is closer shot showing the guys out there fishing.

Those are AMAZING. REALLY AMAZING. I have seen countless sunset lighthouse photos, and while I love them all and devour them like Peppermint Patties (which I LOVE), I do not recall having ever seen one with stars.

One thing...you'd think that fishing next to a lighthouse, you wouldn't need that light.

Ooooh these are just so beautiful! And I was thinking like Greg, that I don't recall seeing a lighthouse photo with stars here before. It's neat how at night the top of the lantern room seems to disappear and makes it seem that the light is sitting right on top of the tower!

The shot with the stars is very cool.
