Anyone ou there going to get out to photograph the sunset on monday night? It is going to be a pretty unique sunset. The moon will be partially eclipsing the sun. This means that the sun will set as a crescent shape rather than its normal round shape. The sunset will only be able to be viewed on the west coast, so all of you west coasters get out there and enjoy this unique opportunity.

Here's another link to the NASA web site that gives times and percentage of totality of next Monday's sunset eclipse.

Hope there will be some photos of it to post here. I'll certainly go out to Lake Michigan to shoot it, but this far north I'm only going to have about 17% (Detroit) coverage of the sun's disk. Folks in LA will be a lot more lucky at about 71%.

Well, did anyone get to see or photograph the partial eclipse of the sun last night at sunset (here in the eastern time zone it was at sunset, anyway)? Couldn't begin to see the sun by around 7:30.... it just sank into a featureless grey sky to the west, so no partial solar eclipse here in SW Michigan anyway. I'm hoping that someone on the CF got to see it and perhaps took a shot of it!

Well, I was in central IL. at sunset, I did not take my camera bag with me since I had to take a bunch of other stuff with me when I left home. I was in and out of heavy thunder storms all afternoon and the sunset gods smiled on me, about a half hour before sunset the sun dropped out from behind the storm front for an absolutly beautiful sunset and a great view of the eclipse in brilliant orange, If I had taken my camera with I am sure it would have continued to rain. I also saw 3 rainbows inbetween the storms too....since I didn't have my camera

Mark,

Figures... you never have you camera when there is something you REALLY want to photograph "scheduled!" I don't know how I ended up as lucky as I did the night I got to photograph the sun pillar out at South Haven. By all rights, I should have turned around and gone home any one of about 3 different times on the way out there that night... I ran in and out of heavy snow squalls and for the first, freezing cold hour I was out there, I wondered if there was going to be anything worth photographing. Boy am I ever glad I figured what the heck, I'm here, so why not wait and see what happens! Glad you got to see it even if you didn't get to photograph it to share on here.

Got to see a little of it here in SE Ohio- it was really starting to look good when the sun fell in behind the clouds. I took some shots so we'll wait and see.

We had rain here Monday night. No sun, moon or eclipse in sight.

From the news, I assumed that about the time the sun was setting here, the eclipse would be in full swing.

I waited and located and took some photos at the TPC Golf Club in Scottsdale. But while the pictures came out, the actual eclipse was over.

I was able to get the early part of the eclipse before the sun dropped in behind the clouds- this is all I got----

Kinda cool regardless, Bud!

Thanks for sharing this one with us. You couldn't see anything from here in SW Michigan that evening. Solid clouds.
