This year the theme for the White House decorations are National Parks. At the East Wing of the White House where the tours start they have made a replica of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It's a bit short but it does have a working light at the top. You should check it out! White House Cape Hatteras

A little short but otherwise a good replica. I bet it cost a few bucks to create it. Thanks for the interesting link! Bob

Thanks, Ruthie! It is short and stocky but there's a lighthouse at the White House for Christmas!

Somewhere, there's a link to the ornaments for this year. Each NPS unit has its own ball, decorated specially.
Being the huge NPS junkie I am, I'm trying to figure out how to get them. Anyone know how to break into the White House? :p

Greg, I found the web site to see all of them... White House Web Site On the right side below the Barney cam and photo essays you can click on the ornaments and see a great slide show. Pretty cool. Even a lighthouse or two.

The Cape Lookout national seashore ornament is beautiful. Some really nice ornaments, and some all you can see is a reflection of the camera.

Really wonderful display! A great combination of national historic sites, preserves, monuments, recreation areas, seashores, parks, etc. Just goes to show that you could take umpteen vacations in this country and never see all the greatness and beauty. Thanks again, Ruthie, for posting the links for us.

I wonder how Barbara Bush likes her portrait over the 'replica'?

I always enjoy visiting the National Parks. What a fun idea for decorating the Christmas tree.
Thanks Ruthie!
