Here is one of each of the Chicamacomico station buildings. 1874 1911 Little Kinnakeet 1874 Note that the entire building is almost painted and looks brand new. And one of a shell just out of the surf on the sound side at Little Kinnakeet.

Beautiful, Stephen! Since I am also a shell lover/collector, I think the shell photo is stunning. Thanks for the extra bonus!

In the "if you didn't know" department, I did an article for Lighthouse Digest on the "stabilization" of the Little Kinnakeet station buildings in July of last year. While there is not an online version of the article, the text and more photos than were in the mag. can be found here. http://www.beachbum.homestead.com/Life-SavingStations/Stations/Little_Kinnakeet.html Thanks for the compliments on the photos.

Stephen,
I am guessing the yellow color on Little Kinnakeet is historically accurate - if I remember, that is also the color on the Indian River LSS.
It has been anumber of years since I was last on the OBX, and remember that even then the Chicamacomico LSS buildings appeared to be unpainted. Is this also historically accurate at some time frame?

Stephen, I can't believe I missed that article - I'm going to go dig up my old issues. I am always so impressed by the amount of research and work you have put into your website. It's because of you that I have developed such an interest in the LSS's. Last summer, I was able to go with Judy on a one day trip to the Outer Banks but had no time for the LSS's. I would love to do a trip specifically to visit each of the locations of the old and current building sites. Thanks for sharing all the great info!

I like that one because it is a "unique angle" of sorts because you never see a shot of the station from just off the property. I always try to look for different spots to photograph things from that maybe people haven't thought about yet. It keeps things interesting.
Glad you liked it!

Stephen, I like that additional shot of Chicamacomico. I think that's the first time I've seen that LSS from the street.

Actually, that photo was taken from the grassy lot on the south side of the station. Here is one more I found as I was going through the files from the weekend. I like this one because it is what I think the station would have looked like many years ago with all the grasses. Kind of makes it look deserted.

Another nice picture! I like this prospective-the grasses and the old gnarled trees. Glad you took another look and shared this one with us!

Awesome pictures, Stephen!
Quick question...is Chicamacomico near the beach? What is the closest landmark? I will be driving down to North Carolina in August and was wondering if I might take a venture to try to see this LSS.
This is one of my favorites. Love the look of it!
