Hi to all,

I took this shot of the Grand Haven pier tonight, 6.5 seconds, 4.2 aperature, ISO 100 setting, on my Nikon CP5700 5.0 megapixel digital camera (8x optical zoom). I touched it up in PS using contrast adjustment slightly. I think it turned out pretty good for digital. Thoughts and comments appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the nice comments! It took me over 20 tries to get the one above. The cool thing about digital is the instantaneous feedback. I shot like 40+ shots, came home and looked at them, and picked my favorite (above). Here is a full-length one of the pier.



And here is a "special effects" with my cross-screen filter. A little surreal, but I thought it was cool looking.

Jen - Both are nice shots.

I think you would have had a bit better picture if you had taken it earlier in the evening -- still after sunset -- but with the sky a brighter blue. Then the lights would not be overexposed a bit.

You might try adjusting the colors in a photo editing program to shift the greenish lights a bit more yellow or white.

Does your digital camera have a bracketing function? You can try to take 5 shots from +2 stops to -2 stops.

Just my opinion, of course.

Nice photos Jen. I was just there with a few other HL collectors on Saturday night after the regional event.

It's nice to have a better perspective on what you're looking at after you have been there in person.

John, my camera can bracket, but not on the bulb setting. I was manually holding the lens open for over six seconds. There was no sunset last night. The lights on the catwalk never even came on until 15 mintes after the sun would have gone down. I kept waiting, and waiting...

Here is an adjusted picture with some blue added to make the lights a little more white. Which do you like better?

Jen-love the first one nice color

Jen, those are very nice for a digital. Personally I like the dark blue sky, it gives a nice contrast. The cross screen effect is cool, if a bit overdone. I prefer to use a regular film SLR with the lens stopped all the way down, it gives the starburst effect and it looks a bit more natural.
All around very impressive, keep em coming.

Thanks Mike! I think I ready somewhere you are using a Nikon N90 aren't you? Thatis my regular camera - I normally shoot Velvia or Provia for my landscapes but I just got this new digital and have been playing the last couple weeks. I have seens several of your posts with photos and you have got some incredible shots. Keep them coming as well!
