A Shot of Trinidad Memorial taken last week. I also had a chance to visit Pt. Cabrillo and Pt. Arena

Great shots, Bill. I've never heard of these lights, is there a story behind the memorial light?

I don't know the 'memorial' part of the story, but my understanding is that the 'real' lighthouse is on those rocks in the background on the ocean side. This one in the harbor is a reproduction of the real one.

John,

The Memorial was built by a local civic organization as a rememberance of sailors lost at sea.

It includes an exact replica of the Lighthouse (same size, etc) and the original lens. It also has the original fog bell alongside of it. this was done in 1947.

The original is on the little highland jutting out into the Harbor shown in the picture. There is a trail you can follow up to the area of the Light.

I'm not sure if it would be accessible now since it is inside the perimiter of the coast guard installation.

Dennis

A couple more views of the "real" lighthouse can be found here:

and here:

Click on the yellow "lighthouse lantern room" for another view similar to the one in the link Paul provided.

I did hike over Trinidad Head for hopefully a view, but no good except for the roof top of the LH. I guess maybe I could have made my own trail thru the brush.

If only I could hit that Powerball, I jumped on that West Coast trip guided by our very own Nana. (My stretch limo would be shadowing the 54 passenger coach.)

Great photos Bill. Was out in southern Cal. earlier in the year and only made it up to Port Hueneme. Thanks for sharing the photos. Dan

I hiked all over that rock for nearly an hour, in the fog, trying to find the lighthouse. Finally I asked some locals and they told me it was inside the CG base and you couldn't get in the base.

That Point Cabrillo shot is extraordinary. The lens detail...spectacular. I take it you weren't using a disposable camera...

Bill,

Nice pictures. I haven't had the opportunity to visit these lights. Maybe some day.

I have a postcard of the Point Cabrillo lighthouse that is very similar to your photo Bill (but I'm sure yours is better)! It's a very interesting looking light and in great condition. The story of its restoration can be found here:

http://www.mcn.org/1/pointcabrillo/restorchron.htm

That door right in the front of the tower makes you want to walk right in.

Very nice photos, Bill, especially that Point Arena shot. Are you going to post it on Photoblink?

Well Bill, I e-mailed you before I checked out your post- Pt Arena looks like a must see, I may have to adjust my schedule by a day or so. Any motels in the area up there? I wonder how the sunsets would be. Great shots, Bill!!

Great shots, Bill! I can't wait until I'm there in July. Hopefully we'll have nice days like that when we're there.
