Well hope you are not bored yet, but here are some more light ship pictures. This time we are traveling along the Kiel-Canal, watching out for a certain light vessel, which is on its way home.

We arranged to meet our friend Iris in Rendsburg by the railway bridge with the hanging bridge.

Here met at the "Ships Greeting Point" - a restaurant, where you can eat great food. And the special attraction the greeting of the ships. The guests are told about the ships which pass through the canal and past the restaurant. And then, when the ship is level with the place, the relevant national anthem is played at full volume, so the ship's crew can hear it.

We were waiting for the Lightship Fehmarnbelt. She was on her way from Hamburg, back to Lübeck and had to pass through the canal on route.
But first we had to wait for another big ship.

HMS Bulwark ... she had been at the Kiel Week Celebrations and was now on her way home.
We listened to the UK anthem and then ...

... finally the ship we are waiting for

All of the crew stood on the port side and waved. We thought they waved to the guy who plays the anthems and talks about the ships. What we did not know, they had been told that we would be there and the waving was for us smile

The plan was, to drive along the canal and wait for the ship at several points to take more pictures. Iris does this quite often.

So we crossed the canal over the hanging bridge, you can see on the first picture, and traveled along to our next "meeting point" at Neu Königsförde.

Well ... so this went on until we reached a little place called Landwehr. Here we saw the ship approaching and heard the captain call the crew to the starboard side to greet "Iris and the Lighthouse Duo" and again they waved. But this time.... we had to hide a little tear ... they had hoisted the Union Jack for us.

And when they passed Stan, who stood a bit further along the canal than Iris and I, they dipped the flag to him. We had to swallow real hard!
