After my friend sent me the image of Hatteras from 1971, it got me looking around for old images of lighthouse on the internet... this one is of with the keeper's house not as it is today..

Paul,

Thanks so much for sharing the images ...

I especially liked Little Sable ... it's always appealing to me to see lighthouses day-marked differently from what we see them today ...

The other odd thing ... from certain angles, if you are willing to walk a bit, you can still catch glimpses of both Fire Island and Scituate in vitually the same pose you posted.

Thanks again ...

Barry

Paul,

I may be wrong but that looks like a ladder or something going from the roof to the lantern room of Old Point Loma.

I wonder if the inside stairs were under repair or something- or I'm incorrect that it is a ladder going from the roof to the lantern room.

Dennis,

Maybe it's just a way for Santa Clause to get into the lighthouse on Christmas Eve.

My guess on the Old Point Loma is that this was the modifications done after New Point Loma was built. The lantern room appears to be mostly converted (almost boarded up). The home was probably still used by a keeper.

It would be interesting to know more about the history of this photo and the era it represents.

That OPL photo is the kind that I can't look at before bed. Otherwise, I have Dagguerreotype-like nightmares, with these old abandoned buildings that have foggy people standing in front of them.

I had to put an 8 PM curfew on Lost Lighthouses. wink

Paul, thanks for the shot from Little Sable - I don't see hardly any images with the original keeper's house. It was razed by the USCG in the 50s. Too bad it wasn't left.

Neat photos Paul, thanks. It seems that there was a public telephone at Scituate. Or maybe the keeper or his wife was also the telephone operator? laugh
