This was actually my first lighthouse of the day - after the helicopter exercise. I stopped at Ecola State Park for the views. Absolutely stunning scenery. I did also drive down to Inidian Head Beach, but did not stay due to time. An area I definitely want to get back to and shoot a sunset! Tillamook sits over a mile offshore, so these were about as good as I could get with my 70-200 lens and a 1.4x converter. Below is a crop of the above photo to zoom in on the lighthouse a bit more. And a couple more views from the path that winds the headlands at the State Park. And an overlook of Cannon Beach from the same state park...

They're all great, as usual... but my favorite is the composition with the deceased tree. It's a great solution that still features the far-away lighthouse.

Nice job, Jen, I like the park benches. I can just imagine Sue and I sitting there waiting for the sunset...
Onward to The Land of the Midnight Sun!

Jen,
I have two favorites in the series. The one with the dead tree and the one with the park benches. I can almost imagine Paul and Sue sitting there -- but in my mind's eye it doesn't look like they are waiting for the sunset.

Jen,
I love these photos. Makes me wish I had made the effort to see this light. I took the afternoon off from work. It was a beautiful sunny day in the Twin Cities, and I opened all the windows. When I was looking at your photos earlier this afternoon, I swear I heard whales behind me. I turned to see what it was and never figured it out... Maybe I'm losing it or else I have west coast fever. Anyway, good job!

I just got the Lighthouse Digest. How do you get those great shots. UNBELIEVABLE. What a cover picture.

Thanks for the great comments, everyone. The composition with the dead tree was a "spur of the moment" shot - I was walking out of the park, and turned around, and saw it, and said to myself, "Oh! I gotta shoot that!" Paul, I can see you guys sitting there for sunset, too... did you see Terrible Tilly on your trip? Tammy, we looked really hard for whales this trip and didn't see any from land. Saw a couple dolphins on the ferry ride over to Friday Harbor but that was it. Fran, someone posted on the other lighthouse board that I made the May cover of Lighthouse Digest with my image of White River, Michigan and the lilacs in bloom. I took it last Memorial Day weekend. This is the lighthouse closest to where I live; about 30 miles away. This is my second LD cover and I was very thrilled!!! If someone has a copy and could scan it, I'd sure love to see it! I probably won't get mine for another week or so. Here is the photo that Fran is referring to:

The "dead tree" is almost appropriate since Tillamook is now a columbarium and you can have your ashes plced there forever!!
