Very nice Tammy. Does the river freeze that far north? It looks more like a summer day.

The Mississippi River in the Monticello area stays open for the most part because of the power plant. That's one reason why some swans decided not to migrate about 20 years ago. Plus, a lady, who has become a friend of mine, feeds them (up to 1200 pounds of corn a day). Sometimes there are big chunks of ice floating down the river. Probably won't see much of that this winter. We have been having an unusually warm winter. We had rain at the end of December. I don't remember that ever happening before.
On the St. Croix, the river does freeze, but there is usually a small part that is always open where the swans hang out. Right now the river is pretty open.

Beautiful photos Tammy!
They were just talking on the News about the fact that there is no ice on the lakes in Madison, Wisconsin. They are wondering if the lakes will freeze over at all this winter. They say that has not happened for 150 years. Yesterday I was outside walking around in downtown Madison without a coat. It looked like the tulips were already peaking through the ground.

I love the your pictures Tammy, especially the first one. Makes me think about the book The Trumpeter Swan written by the author that also wrote Charlotte's Web and Stewart Little. Author's name escapes me right now.
I wish we could send ya'll some of our snow, Denver slated for another 3-6 inches tomorrow.

Great pictures Tammy. We may be lighthouse nuts here on the forum, but we do also enjoy seeing other photos. Thanks for sharing. HCS

Great pictures Tammy! I too really like the first one showing the swans interacting. It definitely has been an unusual winter around here! Not that I'm complaining mind you...
