Well, during the Wacko Door County road trip there were two dawn photo expeditions to photograph the Sturgeon Bay north pierhead lighthouse known by various names ending in "...red."

Some of the photos that resulted from those trips folks here on the HL-CF have seen, others they've not. I wanted to take this opportunity (while working on getting back to the nearly 500 posts that I had before the site evidently hiccuped the other day) to share some photos of photographers on those dawn photo expeditions.

First, here's a shot of Jakers shooting something across the ship canal, probably the CG station...

Chesapeake Bryan shooting the north pierhead light...

And a little while after the sun came up, I switched over to a 300 mm lens with a 2X teleconverter... oh so convenient for unexpected "portraits"

We really did get some dawn on Thursday morning, albeit for only just a little while...

A version of this photo was posted previously, but this one gives a little better definition of the lighthouse when the light levels came up a little. For what it's worth, this shot was a 15 sec exposure at f16 on Fuji Velvia (Iso 50) slide film.

Nice photos Gary. It is good to see that the two sleeping beauties that were on the expedition with you (remember you told us that they fell asleep on the pier while waiting for the sunrise) woke up to take some sunrise photos.

OK, I confess. Much as I wanted to capture those early morning 'Gary Martin Moments', I didn't want to get carried away by mosquitos.

And after all, with Gary there, who could compete?? LOL

Yawn, Nana, as in I can't get up at that hour of the morning?

As for competing, John... was this an HL sanctioned contest that morning?

Catching others unaware by taking photos of them is part of the fun of photographing with someone else, rather than being by yourself!
