On Saturday, Christina and I did something that we almost never do....GO WEST! One great thing about living in NC is that we have a great coastline and a great mountain range that are both easily accessable with a lot of activites to do and places to go. While not the intended stop along the trip, we drove by Pilot Mt. on the way up into the mountains and went by on the way home for some photo opportunities. For those of you who may not be familiar with Pilot Mt., here is the official web site. http://ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visit/pimo/home.html Anyway, to some photos. Here is the few of the pinnacle from the overlook. The view with a pine tree in the fore ground. Just before you get to the overlook, a trail begins that takes you out to the base of the pinnacle, which you can walk around. You use to be able to climb a fire escape type stairway to the top, but since someone fell some time back, that is no longer possible. Some rocks over head along the base of the pinnacle.

Continuing on... Puckett Cabin was our first stop, although it wasn't a planned one. I remember passing by it a number of years ago and when we drove by, I saw a nice photo opp. so we stopped. The Cabin The fence that lines the property Other shots of the Cabin area I have more photos from our day I will share as soon as I get them ready. Oh, here is a web site for the cabin http://www.virtualblueridge.com/parkway_tour/overlooks/00190.asp.

Our destination of the day was Mabry Mill. A quiet location along the Blue Ridge Parkway, where hopefully we could catch a bit of color in the tree leaves and a good reflection in the water. Here are a few of what we shot. This cabin is 140 years old. On site Saturday, park rangers were making apple butter, acting as an old fashion blacksmith, and giving tours of the cabin and mill. There is also small eatery and gift shop located on the property. The place was packed but we managed a few photos with no people. http://www.virtualblueridge.com/parkway_tour/parks/176_2/index.asp

Looks like you and Christina had a great day for your western adventure Stephen. Enjoyed your photos. You know I had a boss with the last name of Puckett who retired to NC. Suppose that cabin's his retirement home???

Gorgeous shots Stephen. We've spent many vacations in NC in September and October after the tourist season in years past. If memory serves, NC was about 2 weeks behind CT weatherwise, but the colors you've photographed mimic what we're seeing here in CT now. Guess there really is something happening to the weather.
Thanks for sharing.
