Had an interesting day yesterday. Read all about it here: Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar
And this is what it was all about:

The German Lightvessel Elbe 1 in the harbour of Penzance in Cornwall.

Wow, that's a different looking lightship. Is it still the original design or have there been modifications made?

Great report, Stan & Margret! Nice photos, too. Elbe1 looks like it was ship-shape for the journey but why did you have to leave before the party?

4 meter waves - must have been pretty rough out on the Channel!

Thanks for taking us along!

BTW - You see any Pirates while sailing into Penzance? smile

Great story and picture Margret. Thank yo for sharing both. 4 meter waves would be about 15 feet high. Makes for real rough seas.

Bob M, if you want to find out about the ship you can look her up on Lightshipfan's pages Feuerschiffseite - Elbe 1 - Iris has English pages as well as German ones.

And John, why I had to leave? Well, I had to get home again. And to drive nearly 200 miles on English roads is a bit of an enterprise. And also, the road I needed to travel on is a bit too busy for comfort on Fridays. Too many people returning home for the weekend after working away all week. As it was, I did not get home until well after dark.

Bert, the English Channel is know for big seas. I have spent a few hours in sailing boats crossing it... ... the colour of our faces has often been like this ...

Oh and John... no pirates... there were too many coast guard boats off shore cool laugh
