All you Michigan folks, I have been monitoring your weather. It is chilly here but I can't imagine how incredibly cold it must be for you. It would be really neat to see some of the Michigan lights we saw on the pre/post reunion bus trip in their winter coats. I know Jen has some fabulous pictures. There is a "Spring" thread for those of you who are cold. How about a "Winter" thread for those of us who don't get one?

Aww, man. You want to talk about NUTS. Everything around me is covered in ICE!! 1/2" of it, to be exact. We lost our power last night about 1:30 a.m. and it came back on about 5 p.m. tonight. The temp inside was a balmy 59 degrees, compared to the 20 degrees it's been all day. Not bad for 15 hours of no heat. Tonight it's supposed to be well below zero!! Thank the Lord he got our power back on!!

As Grace requested, here is a shot of Point Iriquois that I took the beginning of March, 2004. There was 3 feet of snow on the ground and I went wading in it to get this shot. It was my first time over the Mighty Mac in the winter.

If the sun is out tomorrow, I might venture out and see what I can get with this ice storm. It's only supposed to be a high of 13 above zero, but I can bundle up with my thermals. I am itching to get to Little Sable since I have no winter shots from there at all...

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you all don't have power outages. Jen, keep those babies bundled up. And thanks for the gorgeous, gorgeous picture! Anybody have pictures of the Mackinac area? The lights look so beautiful in the snow!

Probably not a lot of Straits area snow pics this year. Last I heard, there wasn't even an ice bridge this year.

Not to the quality level of others, but from a hackers perspective:

Dave, those are really beautiful. The contrast between summer and winter is so dramatic. Just love it! Any chance that you had some postcards made of those?

I can't get pictures with the ice and snow. By the time I get to go out for one in NJ the snow is gone. We had 18" and it was gone before we knew it.

Very nice Dave. One day I'll get to get some snow picts like that. Like Fran says by the time I would get to them the "dramatic" snow is gone. I guess its something to look forward to -- some day. smile cool

OK, Jen, did you run that picture of Whitefish thru a filter to get the effect? It really takes the look of a painting more than a photo (at least to me).

These are absolutely fabulous! Just what I wanted to see. Many of your shots do look like paintings, Jen - really great!

Thanks, you guys! Dave, no filter on the Whitefish shot. It was a soft sun with clouds and with the snow reflecting that soft light, really made for a nice photo. That was taken about 2:00 in the afternoon. It was so eerily quiet at Whitefish in the winter - all you could hear was snowmobiles on Lake Superior!

Here is a shot I took tonight in 5 degree above zero weather about a mile down the road from my house. I got out into my backyard earlier today to shoot some ice coated pine trees. If the sun comes out again tomorrow, I'm going to try hard and get up to Little Sable.

Thank you so much, Jen. That is a splendid view! Have you made postcards of some of your pictures?
