I had another great weekend at Sea Girt this year for the 2006 NJ Challenge. It was, of course, great to see all the challengers and share my love of the lighthouse with them. But I also got in some time to take lighthouse photos of my screenname-sake light.

I got some new angles of the exterior, as well as some nice detail shots. I just uploaded them to Flickr.

I have to change my avatar now to a new angle of the light...my current one is almost two years old. I like the new over the dune shots...

Seagirt,
Awesome pictures! I especially like the angle from the sand dunes.

I wonder if I spoke to you while we were there and didn't know it?
I was asking questions about Life Saving Stations as well...do you remember anyone like that...you know...gray haired balding type of guy? LOL!

Greg,

We were in Atlantic City this past weekend and I saw a sign indicating there's a new light at the end of the boardwalk. When I questioned one of the "cab" drivers, he said I should not venture to that end as it's not in a good location and I might get mugged. Do you know anything about that light?

Thanks,
Sandy

Bob -

I was waiting for you all weekend - I knew you were coming. Saturday and Sunday, I worked the lantern room until about noon. Then I moved down to the parlour (first room on the left when you enter the lighthouse, with the big leather furniture and fireplaceb) for the rest of the day. I was wearing my Wacko badge the whole time.

If you talked to a 16-year-old kid who had a vast knowledge of the lighthouse, then that was me. I was looking for your Wacko badge, but I didn't see anyone with one all weekend.

I was also talking to a guy with a D80 in the lantern room about his camera. I know you just got it, so maybe that was you? He had the same lens I think, too.

Don't remember anyone asking about LSS, though I did mention them to one guy and taught him about them.

If you didn't go in the lantern or parlour, that would make me easy to miss - not everyone climbs, and a lot of people miss the parlour.

Too bad...I was hoping we could meet up. Maybe next year...

Greg,

It had to be me... I had my green Maryland Lighthouse Challenge shirt on. Geez, that really narrows it down. I think I was talking to you a bit in the lantern room. I'm thinking it was around 10:00am or so. I had my son with me up there...my wife stayed at the ladder...just like your picture describes and would not go up!
When you wrote the caption under the ladder picture...I swore you might have been talking about her.

Too funny!

Thanks for the comments...glad you liked the shots! Sea Girt's a tough light to photograph - the "road furniture" gets in the way of most shots, and from my favourite dune perspective, there's a lamppost that's very hard to avoid. But hopefully I brought new views to my favourite light for some of you.

Bob...yeah, I think that must have been you. I remember a guy with a MD t-shirt with a D80 and a kid and a wife that wouldn't come up. A lot of people have similar stories during the challenge, but not THAT similar.

Did you have on your Wacko badge? Or did I miss it?

Sandy...I have no idea about any new light in AC, but it is interesting sounding. A Google turned up many pages on Absecon light, but nothing on anything else.

If anyone knows anything, I'm now very interested, too.

These are really creative shots, Greg. I enjoyed seeing the different side of things. When you have a favorite light and visit it often, it becomes a challenge but fun, to get that different shot.

I've visited Seagirt twice in years past, and hope to get there again before long.

Thanks for sharing your latest photos.
