I mentioned that I had been able to go to the Haig Point Lighthouse and shoot it on land rather than by boat. Still, the pictures I got of it from a boat are better than these, but you do get a close up feel from these...as well as a look inside. Here is a close up of the front. Its really hard to get a frontal shot of the lighthouse because it sits next to a small cliff that is about a 20 foot drop... This next photo was shot from the cliff. Here is a shot from behind the lighthouse. Now, we go inside. Lighthouse Friends.com tells of a plexiglass cover in the kitchen that shows the old tabby fireplace. Here it is: I'm going to end this post now, and post the rest in the next post...

Here is the livingroom..There is a TV in there as well. And, the dining room Now, we go upstairs. And, see the 2 bedrooms. I was allowed to go up to the top and see the light, but the floors and ladders were very rickedy. I didn't dare bring my camera up there. The Haig Point Lighthouse is also haunted.

You covered Haig Point extremely well. I don't recall anyone here doing that before. It's refreshing to have new talent sharing their work at the CF. Bob

The story says that back when it was in use, the lighthouse keeper and his daughter, Maggie lived there. They were a Gullah family. A boat docked at the port, and Maggie fell in love with a sailor on the crew of the boat. On the boat's departure, he promised Maggie that he would come back and marry her. She waited for 2 years, and finally the boat came back into the Calibouge Sound. She ran out to greet the sailor, but he was not on board. She asked the crew members where he was, and when he would be coming back. The captain told her that he was no longer a member of the crew, and he likely wouldn't be back because he was married. Maggie, devestated hung herself from the plaform at the top of the tower.
People have seen the apparition, and female guests say that they have had hair combs, etc go missing.
True? I don't know, but I do kno that there are Gullah people still there, and they won't go near the lighthouse.

Love those pictures. Especially the inside ones. That four-poster-bed is brilliant! (Wonder if there is a pattern to crochet the lace top??? ) And the story about the girl is great. Thanks for telling the stories and showing the pictures!

I thought I recognized part of the story about the waving girl, and it being at a Savannah lighthouse. Lighthousefriends has the same first half of the story about a lady living with her brother at the Elba Island Lighthouse. (the link will take you to the Cockspur page, scroll down to the story) They also have a story about a drunk falling off the tower at Haig Point when the building was used as a party house after the light was decommissioned. Interesting how different places adapt a variation of a story to fit their locale. Wonder which version of this one is the correct (or more correct) one?
