I had to check out the new noise reduction for long exposures on the 20D, so Mary and I went up to Little Sable last Sunday night. I gave her a disposable camera to keep her busy and she did pretty darn good! 25 minutes before sunset. 15 minutes before sunset. Everyone on the beach was taking photos of the sunset, and I was looking back at the lighthouse! 45 minutes after sunset. This is 20 seconds at F16, ISO 100. In between I was taking shots of Mary playing in the water as the sun was sinking. These last two were an hour after sunset, ISO 400, 30 seconds at F11 with the noise reduction. Made a big difference in the large file, but took a good 30 seconds to post-process in the camera after it was captured. Talk about being impatient! The white dots are not dust spots; they are the stars appearing at twilight.

Very cool; I had to look very closely but I saw the stars! Very, very nice, Jen!

Wow! Fantastic ranges on that digital camera and fantastic camera work, Jen! I've got to move somewhere closer to lighthouses!

Wonderful, Jen. Just look at the colors playing on the light tower near sunset. Wow!
Like Grace, I had to look closely, but the stars are there. It would be fun to see some of Mary's work. She's starting young, but look at the teacher she has!
(Which leads right back to the idea proposed in another thread of you teaching some classes for us. Hope that can materialize.)

Jen, Nicely composed shots. You will love the 20D if you don't already.

Jen, looks like your enjoying your new camera, and the skys were cooperating. Little Sable was one of my favorite subjects in Michigan last year. Welcome to the 20D club! Let's see some of Mary's pics? Bob

WOW!!! Fantastic photos as usual Jen. I really like the 45 minutes after the sunset. The contrast of the tower against the colors in the sky is so neat. I found the stars! I like the clarity of the light in that one. I agree with John about having to move closer to lights!

I have a couple of images of my son Chad on the beach at St. Augustine Beach that the last two images of Mary reminded me of, I will have to search for those and post them...
Thanks for posting them Jen!!

I was rattling off the "cheapie" Nikons - the D2X, Canon's 1DsMII and the 5D are all way out of my price league, unfortunately!
