I have 10 images taken near an ATON in the USA. Your challenge is to name the item in the photo, the name of the ATON and the nearest community - city and state.

RULES
1. Saints cannot participate
2. One guess per person per 24 hours (from your last guess)
3. Once you win, you can't participate again
4. No partial guesses - you have all three or don't guess!

Sorry, no prizes -- except for the glory of knowing your ATONs extremely well.

Here's the first item:

Nice job, Roland!

I know we had that one in a different contest here, which is why I wanted to get it out of the way.

Here's the second item: Perhaps a bit harder.

Here's what the plaque says:

Need a hint?

The language on the sign has nothing to do with the nearby lighthouse. Except that almost everyone would say it was among the most beautiful locations on the west coast at which to have an outdoor wedding.

You got it Eric!

Here's the third item.

The top two lines on the plaque read:

National Historic
Civil Engineering Landmark

According to a google search there are 244 such sites. Among these site are the following lighthouses: Minots Ledge, Cape Henry and Portland Head

Hey fellow Arizonan, you're not following the rules. You can only post if you know all three facts:

1. What is shown (the National Historic sign is what is shown)
2. The closest ATON
3. The closest City and State

Pick one of your three choices. If it's wrong, you'll have to wait 24 hours from your last post and try again.

Color me somewhat dense, but what does ATON stand for?

My point is that your clue could be any of 244 sites. The picture you posted provides no clue as it is undistinguisable. I posted because it might help someone else solve the problem. Without a further clue and answer your guestion is moot. ART confused PS; Sandy I am with you what the heck is a ATON!

ATON: Aid To Navigation - could be lighthouse, lightship, buoy, etc.

Art, now that you know it's an ATON, it could be any one of 3.

My photos are things you find at a particular lighthouse. I blurred out part of the photo because it names the site.

In most cases, you'd have to have visited that lighthouse/lightship to recognize what's there. In this case, you've narrowed it down. Take a stab at one.

I'm not sure how to post this answer correctly, but let's see if I have it right.

1. marker for Outstanding Engineering Structure

2. Minot's Ledge

3. Government Island in Cohasset, Massachusetts
(where the Keeper's Quarters, fog bell, replica of the lantern room and Fresnel lens, and two circular forms used to assemble the stones are located)

Sorry. The hint indicated the light hasn't operated in decades. Minot's Ledge is still operating.

The correct answers:
1. Plaque/Marker for National Historic Civil Engineering
2. Old Cape Henry Lighthouse
3. Virginia Beach VA

Here's #4:

Again the questions (a slight variant)

1. Whatzit? Yes, it's stained glass.. of what?
2. Wherezit? Not the light this time, the stained glass
3. What city and state is the stained glass located in?

And a new rule. If there's no correct answer within 24 hours of posting the question (based on the posting time), Saints can post.

It is a stained glass of Cana Island Lighthouse.

It is part of a window in the Door County Maritime Museum

The location is Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin where Sue and I will be driving through in about a week!

Paul didn't need my hint, "...go through the door...". Thanks, my friend.

Here's #5:

1. Whatzat round thing?
2. What building is shown in the background?
3. Wherezit? (The name given to this collection of historical buildings moved to a single location?)

Time for a not so helpful hint?

Working here must have been a "grind". You should keep your nose to it, but you could be distracted by all the "little boats" at the point nearby.

Thanks, Terry for coming to the rescue -- and for joining the Collector Forums.

Most of the long-time members will recognize Terry for his excellent website on Great Lakes Lighthouses and as the Executive Director of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association ( GLLKA ). It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway), Terry is a great advocate for lighthouses!

I have a feeling Terry found us because I posted about the game with a link on Facebook today.

Terry - once you've won, you can't guess again.

Here's #6:

1. Whatzat thing? (And what does the engraving indicate?)
2. At which lighthouse is this located?
3. Wherezit? The closest city and state

#6 hasn't been determined yet.

Here's #7:

1. Whatzat thing?
2. At which lighthouse is this located?
3. Wherezit? The closest city and state

Hints:

#6 - you won't have to traverse very far to see this lighthouse

#7 - Gordon Lightfoot mentioned this lighthouse

Saints OK on both.

Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial, Traverse City, MI would be my guess. However, copy on the Memorial indicates it is the bell from the ship and no pictures are shown as to what, if anything, the bell is housed in.

Sorry, Sandy.

Fitzgerald Memorial is at Whitefish Point. The answer for #7. That is where the bell from the Fitz was taken. When they took the bell from the sunken Fitz, it was replaced with a new bell naming those who perished on the ship.

Traverse City is the location for #6 - Grand Traverse Lighthouse. The Bell is a United States Lighthouse Establishment fog bell the year is the year the bell was made. I don't believe this bell was used at Grand Traverse, however.
