I made the trip across "The Pond",
To the land of which I'm very fond,
To visit Margret and Eddystone!
Then on to Scotland on my own,
Went to see Loch Lomond!

How could so many have selected this man in 2004 when they visited the voting booth?

Reminds me of:

There was an old man named Fred.
Whose verses could never be read.
When I asked him "Why?"
He'd always reply:
"Oh, I don't know, I guess it's because I try to put too many words into the last line!" vhappy

There was an old 'wickie' named Ned.

Here's how I would have ended the last limerick:

On a cargo ship headed for Duluth,
I went in search of the simple truth.
I knew the answer would be found,
Even if we had to turn around.
Now where is that fountain of youth?

And to continue the lastest:

There was an old 'wickie' named Ned.
Who often baked a great loaf of bread,
Added three bags of nuts,

Don't mean to be picky, but I thought a Limeric
was five lines where line 1, 2, and 5 rhyme.
And 3 & 4 were a rhymed couple.
Some of the above Limerics do not comply with this.

I thought the rules got modified a bit.

Only one line per Limerick per day. Once a new Limerick starts, your open to post again.

That happened with the new rule that whoever finishes a Limerick, gets to start a new one.

I don't mean to be picky either. After all, this is just a game, but...
I don't see one that doesn't comply with those rules with the exception of the very first one on page 1 of the thread.

Now, they don't all make good sense, but that is also the nature of a limerick.

Maybe you mean that some of the posted lines don't adhere to a strict meter?

Judy

Hilary, I've noticed this too.

Time to resume the last Limerick:

There is an old lightship at New Bedford's dock
It started to sink, like a big old rock.
Some people from ALF decided it needed repair,
But it belonged to the city so ALF didn't dare.

Judy
Judy,
Example:
On a trip to the Cape with folks from NELL,
We suddenly heard a foghorn bell,
There it was, to my surprise,
Right in front of my eyes,
Pretty Nobska lighthouse pearched on a hill

Sorry but HILL does NOT rhyme with BELL.

So the folks from NELL will invest some stock !!!

His legacy has lived from coast to coast.

(alternate last line)

Day and night, he climbs the stairs to tend the light.
He polished and oiled until it was right,
Now is he the one who causes my burnt toast?
