We have new neighbors moving into a house next door to us. The family started moving in yesterday with two tractor-trailers loaded with containerized household belongings.
While they were unloading, I went over to introduce myself and welcome them to the neighborhood. Besides the moving crew the only other person there was a man who introduced himself as Chris. Chris is in the USCG, was recently promoted in rank to CWO (I think that’s what he said), and has been transferred here for service in Vessel Safety and Inspection. The subject of lighthouses came up and guess what?
He is transferring from the 11th District (California) and was on the ANT team that prepared St. George Reef for transfer from the Coast Guard to the SGRLPS!
Chris and I agree we have a LOT in common and we’ll compare notes later. He and his wife and kids are rather busy getting settled in right now.
As Artie used to say, “Unbelievagable”.

Lamar... small world eh?! Now, maybe you can get him to start collecting HLs. Please overlook the fact that he is a Warrant... he couldn't help himself. Sorry Rich, I couldn't resist! Tim - Keeping the flame lit...

Hey Tim, I thought you were on a sabbatical. And like I said, "Right!" Lamar - That would mean that he was here at Aids to Navigation Team Humboldt Bay at the Coast Guard Air Station in McKinleyville. Say hi for me, but I didn't know him. Lamar, you'd better sell him a couple Wacko pins to help with the restoration!

Rich... I figured a few days was good enough. Sorry to disappoint you.

Sean, he DOES have a Bruce Willis haircut!
So, knowing of my fully operational, built in people’s name forgetter I thought maybe I was wrong about his name. Last night I went over to clarify the situation. His name is Chris and he was recently promoted to CWO. Before moving here he was stationed in Nevada (??) for a short while. Before that he was on a High Endurance Cutter out of Alameda, CA. Before that he was on a patrol boat and before THAT was his service in Aids To Navigation Team Humboldt Bay, as Rich said in his earlier post.
He really likes lighthouses, has some gorgeous pictures and says his most enjoyable service to date was ANT.
He’s a hecka of a nice guy and we ‘hit it off’ really well, as do our wives. Our wives are both heavily into gardening. I’m convinced this is a God thing. These are neighbors from Heaven.

Lucky you Lamar to have "neighbors from Heaven". There are certainly quite a few of the other kind! Most of mine have been from the Land of Winkin, Blinkin and Nod!

Lamar, Congratulations on your new neighbors. Looks like some long nights are ahead sitting on the front porch sharing your love for lighthouses. Rusty
