Michigan, that is- home of Whitefish Point,(11 miles north) and of course Crisp Point(our favorite)(37 miles in the boonies) also home of falling temperatures and rain every other day. Stopped by the local Library to check in on the forums.

Hope the days it isn't raining have been decent ones for you, Bud. Better get out of the UP before that rain turns to snow!

Paradise is a really great spot to watch the big lakers as they've come round the bend. Nice inexpensive motels by the water and couple decent restaurants make it a good place to spend an evening after visiting the Shipwreck Museum.
Isn't there an old AZ mining town named Paradise?

There is a Paradise Valley AZ - squeezed between Phoenix and Scottsdale. Has some of the highest per capita incomes and most expensive real estate. Ever hear of zoning that requires 5 acres?
According to my MS Streets & Trips 2002, there are towns named "Paradise" located in 22 states:
NV, CA, AZ, AK, IL, KS, KY, MI, MO, MT, NY, TX, UT, WA, WV, FL, IN, LA, OH, OR, PA and WY.
That doesn't count others with "Paradise" within a longer name (Like Paradise Valley.)
But there's only ONE state with a town named "Hell". Michigan.
Anybody know a town name that's more common within the 50 United States? I know of one found in 32 states.

There are seven Brooksville's in the US - AL, FL, KY, ME, MS, Ok, and VT. Of course I don't think that Paradise, FL is much of a Paradise - it doesn't have any Lighthouses around it! It's in the middle of the state. I think that Springfield is probably one of the most common city names - seems like almost every state has a Springfield. The Simpsons live in Springfield - though they never tell you which state it's in. We have a Christmas, FL. And yes, the city limit signs have christmas garland around them and the general store has Santa and his sled on the roof all year long.

It seems that MS Streets and Trips gives us 32 Auburn's, 7 variations (Auburn Center, Auburn Corners, Etc) and 1 Auburn in New South Wales, Australia. New record John? Jim Johnson

Well we know there's a Phoenix in NY and one in AZ. If there's more I really don't care!

Well then Mombo, I won't tell you that there is actually 13 states that have a city named Phoenix in them. Unlucky 13! Wow, maybe I should move to a Phoenix, might improve my luck.

The other one found in 32 states is "Clinton". Perhaps "Washington" or "Lincoln" might exceed that count. Have to check it out.

I was just in Paradise, Michigan on Monday October 14th, yesterday, and yes there was snow on Oct 13th and 14th! It was really pretty on the ground and trees especially since the fall colors were at a peak! Most of the snow did not last long.

We drove to Crisp Point on October 14th. It is very remote. It was 18 miles on dirt roads. We felt very lucky that we made it to the lighthouse. We met a couple in a truck with two flat tires about 3 miles from Crisp Point! This couple was stuck for 2-3 hours before a tow truck arrived. They did not make it to Crisp Point that day.

I guess there were a number of Wacko's in the upper peninsula of Michigan this past weekend, I left home Friday morning, stopped in Chicago for the sunrise pictures, then on to Port Washington then from Green Bay to Seul Choix then up to Munising then Saturday morning got a few lighthouses in before the rain started then over to Marquette had lunch waited to see if the rain was going to let up (it didn't) skipped Big Bay and the Marquette lights to go over to the Keewenaw Peninsula hoping to get to the back side of the weather system and got to Eagle Harbor for a decent sunset, Sunday morning started out to visit all the lighthouses on the Keewenaw Peninsula after the first two the snow started and didn't let up much most of the day. I did manage to take a few pictures in-between the snow squalls. I gotta say the fall colors were at their peak and fabulous

Hey Mark, ...You can't use four-letter words at the CF. It's much too early to even bring up the "S***" word. I'm still cutting the lawn every five or six days. I'm not ready to get the "S***" shovel out yet. Bob

We're suposed to get rain mixed with snow in Chicago today. Leaving the house this morning, I saw flurries in the headlights. Since weather typically moves west to east, it's coming your way Bob!

Keep that weather where it is for now. I'm suppose to help our friends move their new boat from Maine down to Narragansett Bay. The trip would be a lot more pleasant if we weren't experiencing lousy weather out on the water. Bob

SNOW??? What's that word mean? My dictionary here in FLORIDA doesn't even have that word in it. Oh, wait a minute - yes it does. The definition says - Cold, rain-like, white stuff that falls from the sky making Northerns (see Yankees) move South (see Snowbirds) for the "winter" months. Hmm! They have a picture, but it just looks like a plain white box?!? Definition for Winter - 1. Southern Winter - the cold three weeks Floridians experience during the year, 2. Northern Winter - the feeling of being locked in your freezer for six months out of a year. :p :p :p

Check MS streets(...) for how often Milford comes up. It seems every state I have ever been through has had a town named after a generic Mill at a river. JB

Hi folks, It is 76 degrees at 7:25pm here in Cape Coral, FL, which is also known as Paradise. But, my pool temperature is 86 degrees. Nice and warm enough for an evening swim. However, the temps are expected to drop a little over the next few days. But it beats having to shovel snow. Regards to all. JoanieO

Well JoannieO from Cape Coral ..... go ahead and rub it in. Had a little bit of the dreaded white stuff on the ground yesterday, you know that "four-letter word " stuff. Other than that it's the usual grey & cold Meeeechegan weather. Go outside, face to the north and blow real hard ... maybe some of that warmth will make it up our way.
