As created by Margret (LighthouseDuo)...

Here's the rules...

-I'll start by posting a photo of a lighthouse somewhere in the US (US lighthouses preferred, except for "famous" foreign ones...nothing too obscure). The image should show as much of the light as possible (not a detail), and the light should be visible easily in the photo (no magnifying glasses or other additional items needed to play).
-If you guess the light correctly, you are in charge of posting a new photo. If you don't have a photo to post, or don't know how to, email me (link's at the top of the page), and I'll post one of my own (as long as you don't abuse the offer). Make sure all images are compressed for internet viewing (there are several tools out there if you don't have Photoshop or a similar programme....someone else will know more about the good ones). Also, if you have the light's name in the filename for the image, MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE IT!!!!!!! I'm sure that we will have many people right clicking the image to get the filename (you know you're out there. wink )
-After guessing, you must wait for three more images to be posted and guessed to guess again (exceptions will be made if the game is almost dead or something like that).
-If no one can get it within a few days, you can give some hints.

The first image:

HAVE FUN!

Margret,

IMHP I think it's safe to move on to the next light once you've confirmed the identity which you did with your link. Who knows when Greg will pick his head up from the books. . . .

This is going well! Don't worry about me having to confirm...if someone else can, that's fine. Actually, I'll edit the rules to require a link, like many games. It seems like it's become kind of habitual anyway, but just to make sure.

As for Bert's photo...I know of a few that are close by to each other (VERY close by) that it could be....but I don't know exactly (have an idea, though). Bert, you're welcome to give a hint...I guess I kind of gave one here, too.

Nuts ....

No this is not an insult... it is a hint ... smile
I am not sure I am allowed to guess again this soon, but I think I do know the light ....

I think this is another of the lights, where there is or was some controversy about it having to be taken back into federal ownership ...
Beginning of 2005 someone wrote "...As of yesterday, all right, title and interest in ******** ***** has reverted to the U.S. government..."

I haven't guessed any as yet, so here's one for identifying. . . .

I am told that the tower is still where it was, that the Coast Guard cut off the lantern room. There were about 8 of these unmanned reef lights, all about 50 feet high. Tennessee Reef is the last one to still have the lantern room on it. Pacific Reef is near Caryforts Reef Lighthouse.
If you go back to Lighthouse Directory under Florida and read the opening paragraph, there is a link to the list and includes a picture of Hen and Chickens Unmanned Reef Light (at the bottom). I took the picture.

Cool. Certainly not as pretty as some of the skeleton towers, but neat nonetheless--especially since you received credit.

Sandy

P.S. The way the rules read (at least to me), it's now up to either you (you identified the picture I posted) or Margret (three other pics have been posted and IDed since her picture) to post a picture.

Sandy - close. Margret may now guess on the next one, but Eric is in charge of the photo.

Eric - if you need one, email me with the link at the top of this post, and I'll dig one up and post it.

I know...it seems a little confusing...

Here it is! Sorry for the small size...I pulled it from the compressed photos for my website, which uses this size photo. The light is still visible, though.

(Think a clue should be with the initial picture to make this game move along faster.)

Sandy - I like that idea. It seems like it lags behind with more obscure lights. My only request is that you try and be a little creative with your clues - don't give the answer away.

I'll email Grace, as well as asking her here, whether she'd like me to post the clue or her (since I posted the photo for her, she may not have been to the light or know much about it). Grace - whichever way you would prefer, just email me.

ALSO...another request...to speed things up, I'd like to ask that if you are going to answer the photo, make sure you have a photo all ready, compressed and uploaded. If you are going to ask me for a photo, then email me about it with the link on top of this post, and I'll get a few pre-prepared so that I can post them as soon as I get your email.

Hopefully these various tweaks will help the game go a little faster. smile

Like the idea of a clue from the outset. I must admit, since these are by the nature of the game, some of the lesser known lights, they are a bit beyond my knoweldge.
So I love the learning about new lights. But I fear I won't be able to play too much.
Maybe I'll start a Non-Us game. What do you think?

You're right, Sandy, but I couldn't find anything related to the clue either.

Duxbury Pier is very close to Plymouth Rock (or, as I call it, America's Misnomer...it's tiny). Plymouth was actually the second place that the Pilgrims landed in 1620, after stopping at Provincetown on the way. After exploring Ptown, they decided to keep going and see what they could find further on.

History lesson of the day... smile

Stepping Stones. The following site sounded somewhat familiar, so I had to pick it!! (It is a really good one, Bob.)

Unfortunately, now I have to get someone else to post for me, but I love to participate. I just purchased Long Island's Lighthouses Past and Present and had seen Stepping Stones in it. By the way, Greg, I immediately thought about that bit of history but had no idea what it had to do with the lighthouse.

Grace,

Correct!! And in less than 2 hours!!

If you can't find someone else, you can try sending me your photo and clue as an email attachment (ducks2076@hotmail.com) and I'll attempt to post it on your behalf.

Sandy
