Define your terms. Do you include replicas? Moved cottage lighthouse, no longer recognizable? Etc. Good one.

Standing, as in you can go see them, whether they were moved or not.

Hint about replicas: I consider the Governor's and Harbour Town lighhouses to be real and standing.

Okay, here goes...
Roanoke River replica of 1866
Roanoke River 1877
Roanoke Marshes replica of 1877
North River 1866 (now community bldg.)
All in North Carolina, none in South Carolina or Georgia. Why do I feel like I missed something?

WVlights got all of the North Carolina ones, Shortcake get Haig Point, Weasel got Bloody Point, which I don't count because the lightroom has been turned into a bathroom.

I was looking for the NC ones and Haig Point. I guess since wvlights got the majority of them, its her turn. I guess from now on, I should clarify a little better.

So this may or maynot be a good answer.

But it's not the answer I was looking for! Sorry!

Nope, not Cape Romain either! Further South.

However again, this may or maynot be a good answer, as I haven't been to Cape Romain yet either, so I don't know.

But it is NOT the answer I am looking for!

Clue.... Roland was right about the body of water, as it is on the Gulf of Mexico.

Roland,

Technically Tchefuncte River is not on the Gulf of Mexico. It is on Lake Pontchartrain. However it is in the Gulf Coast Region. And very near the Gulf.

The Lighthouse that I am looking for is on the Gulf of Mexico waters.

Yep...I lived on Hilton Head Island for 2 years, and have been to Savannah quite a few times. The Tybee Island lighthouse was the one responsible for turning me into a lighthouse junkie. lol

Question: In 1889, over a period of four months, this South Carolina lighthouse was dismantled and reassembled 1 1/4 mile farther inland due to encroachment of the ocean.

Yep...And, if you've ever been there, that says alot considering the tower now is probably about 300 yards from the water. I can't imagine there being another mile of land at one point.

The first public building to use natural gas was a lighthouse. Can you name it as well as the other name it has been known as and its location?

Okay, this one has four names according to the Lighthouse Directory. Fuguejiao (Fu-kuei Chiao, Fukwei Chiao, Cape Fukwei) The northern most lighthouse in Taiwan. Built in 1897, a cast iron lighthouse, encased in concrete 1962. http://163.25.29.178/eng_sunshine/undredQuestion/31.htm
Am I closer?

I had to go look at a map. Most everything is west of Taiwan????
Even if I'm not right, you should go look at the site at the link above. I think its an elementary school site all about Taiwan's lighthouses, in rather bad english. Complete with a lighthouse cyclopedia!

Yeah, I finally figured that out about Taiwan. Its harder to find a map on the internet showing the equator than you would think. I enjoyed the elementary website though. They love their lighthouse.
Okay here goes, New Zealand - Cape Reinga, a 33 ft tower built 1941, focal plane 542 feet! On North Island.

Sorry Loon, I felt the need to explain why I didn't know where the equator was, but your answer gave me hope that I finally found the right lighthouse.

Next question: There was once a lighthouse with an octagonal dwelling with an integral tower on the west coast, lower 48. What was its name?

The hexagonal structure that supported the lantern at Ano Nuevo was a water tank, according to lighthouse friends. The light I am speaking of was an octagonal dwelling. Hint: I recently bought a print of an old photo of this light at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive, by Cape Disappointment, so this light was not too far from this area.

I am only finding the "Cape Cod" of 1858 for Willapa Bay.
This one was in Oregon, "Two-story, octagonal dwelling on a cluster of piles."

Yes! Your turn, Art.
I bought several prints of old photos this last trip. Including the picture of Heceta Head through a stone arch, that no longer exists. I really enjoy the old pictures.

First hint: The US lighthouse is located on a military reservation.
