Gull Rock, MI

Gull Rock Lighthouse..

I think this was everybody's favorite Lighthouse, on board the Keweenaw Star that day; of all the Lighthouses around the Keweenaw Peninsula..

This mystery light lives in a dangerous neighborhood.

Its also near water...I just can't show you. I could not 'move my feet.'

The lantern room looks much like Point Lookouts but better condition and the roof looks like new..

Cove Point, MD a classic John Donahoo tower.

John Donahoo also built Point Lookout. This might have something to do with the lanterns looking similar.

I knew it was familiar to me, it just didn't ring a bell. As a matter of fact it is the last Chesapeake light we have visited, probably for the 5th time..

You got it Eric. I could only take pictures from the gate. I still need to see Point Lookout...and a few more Maryland lights.

I like when a builders name is still known after so many years, and for good reasons!

Edited to add: I forgot to mention...the dangerous neighborhood: a nuclear power plant and an Liquid Natural Gas facility nearby. Lots of homes also.

Well, Forty Mile Point, MI has a Pilot House on the grounds but it seems like this one is facing the wrong way.. Plus we have already done that light and I believe it still has it's Fresnel lens..

The picture I had planed to use next, would have really given it away.

Sue and I stayed there for a couple of nights when they 1st opened as a Bed & Breakfast, but since they were working on the stairs to the lantern room I never made it that far.. I finally remembered that the Frontenac pilot house was on the grounds..





Breakfast was delicious!!

I always watch this thread as it is a real education. I currently have no expertise in "cropping" pictures yet and I do mean NO. Will have to educate myself as I really enjoy the thread. I finally was able to sign up for a "Basic Digital SLR" class at a local camera shop so I can begin learning how to properly use the Canon Rebel I bought a year ago and want to take to the Reunion.

I guess we don't realize how many ghost players we have. Thanks Melody. Finding the right program to crop by pixels is hard. I use an old old program in Corel. I recently bought Photoshop Elements 8, but still can't figure out how to crop by pixels in it.

I'm out here lurking and guessing, but don't have enough pictures to play.

As another ghost player... Can you imagine the double take Laura did when she finally noticed the guardian after at least 3 trips accross the yard?

Sisters, sisters...

Part of the keepers job is to stir the water with the oar every day. Water is extremely limited here. For a shower you get a bag to lay in the sun. On a sunny day you get a warm shower, on a cloudy day...well, not so warm. Then you hang the bag in the outdoor shower and gravity does the rest. I won't even go into the counting that is done before flushing the toilet.

Back outside for a window and a little bit of a very nice roof...

Really?!? You should go, its a great place. Always nice to have time and access to explore a lighthouse.

Rose Island Lighthouse

You got it Paul. This is a picture of the lighthouse before renovation work in 1990.

From our trip out to Rose Island in 1999..



Both are artist proofs, both the HL614 Mini Rose Island and HL615 Rose Island in front of the real lighthouse, both are my hands, the moment priceless..

Now Paul, your pictures keep undermining my determination to spend my money seeing real lighthouses. Those are just gorgeous!

Oh, one other thing. Both the hardhats and the fake coyote are to guard against bird attacks. Certain areas of the island you do not go into without protection.
