I'm trying to figure out how we got there. I thought we only landed by boat at Pier 17. Oh well. it was in 2006. You're up Laura and a lot more knowledgeable about Lightships than you think. lol

Reveal My mistake - The lightship is docked at Pier 66 Maritime
I always enjoyed seeing it when we used to take the Seastreak up the East River to Shea Stadium.

Yes it is Walton. You're up Bob. Sounds like a great time! What was the 'theme' of the birthday party? BTW, saw Farallons today along with whales so close you could hear them breathe. Amazing day.

The theme was water. slip n slide palm tree sprinler water baloons water cup w hole on head relay Mother nature contributed with a summer rain storm for 15 minutes flooding the streets as guest arrived. LOL Things dried up as quick as they came. Julia, age 6 wants to be a meterologist. So when her helium baloons dropped to the ground and rose again as the air pressure changed, we had an unexpected science experiment! Her party at home upstate was BUGS with a scavenger hunt on their 6 acres. Needless to say, we gave her a weather station as a gift. Loving the Whales!

OK it is a first order lens that served until sometime in the 1960s and is now in a museum in California.

Wow...we did not get that close. I can see that the right color came through though. Nancy did some burning thing...no idea, but it helped alot. This is what the lighthouse used to look like... And the second picture is the next lighthouse. (Even though Eric hasn't officially said its right).

Its hard with grandkids too far away. Paul has the right idea, just move closer. In case anyone hasn't figured out just which lighthouse it is...here's the rest of the lighthouse. Nancy and I had the privilege of cleaning it top to bottom...at least dusting and cleaning all floors. So next time you are there, please don't track sand into my tower. ;)

You got it Bob. The people who had done (and continue) the restoration were very particular about harsh cleaning chemicals. Thats why you can still see the scuff marks on the stair risers. Everything was cleaned with just water and a smidge of simple green. Cleaning is a great way to get to know a lighthouse. We enjoyed it tremendously.

Wouldn't this have made a great Harbour Lights replica? The before picture I mean. I just like the proportions of this one, better than Pigeon Point. Twiggy was certain it had been made, but we checked his book and it wasn't there. I guess we will have to wait for the real thing. They are making progress!

here is what she looked like the last time I was there in 07. Honestly I knew it from the windows, they are very unique.

I thought this might be Gray Reef under wraps but the antenas seem different but I was only there in 2005? Are you going to do a reveal peeling off the wrap piece by piece?

Yes it is Indiana Harbor, I thought the catwalk might be a big help, If not I thought the Chicago skyline would be the next big clue, They have been painting it for about the past month

How did you get access. I thought it was in a area that was off limits due to the iron mills.

I work at that steel mill, My current dept. has me about 7/10 of a mile from the light house. I am adding a screen shot from M.S. Streets & trips, S&t doesn't show the lighthouse or the breakwall but I put a marker for the light and my location in the mill (the black line is a s&t measurement)
