Continuation from Part II. http://www.lighthousekeepers.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=37;t=000289

Last post was by Tom K (regalhobo) - here's his photo:

This is off the coast of Maine.

[Smile] [Cool]
Please continue play here.

THE RULES:

-I'll start by posting a photo of a lighthouse somewhere in the US (US lighthouses preferred, except for "famous" foreign ones...nothing too obscure). The image should show as much of the light as possible (not a detail), and the light should be visible easily in the photo (no magnifying glasses or other additional items needed to play).
-If you guess the light correctly, you are in charge of posting a new photo. If you don't have a photo to post, or don't know how to, email me (link's at the top of the page), and I'll post one of my own (as long as you don't abuse the offer). Make sure all images are compressed for internet viewing (there are several tools out there if you don't have Photoshop or a similar programme....someone else will know more about the good ones). Also, if you have the light's name in the filename for the image, MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE IT!!!!!!! I'm sure that we will have many people right clicking the image to get the filename (you know you're out there. [Wink] )
-After guessing, you must wait for three more images to be posted and guessed to guess again (exceptions will be made if the game is almost dead or something like that).
-You MUST give a hint with the photo; if nobody gets it in a reasonable amount of time, you can post another one.

HAVE FUN!

It sure is Greg! It is a little out of the way when even visiting East and West Quoddy but worth the side trip..

Did we decide to let this die? I wish I could post something, so we could keep it going.

That's wierd. I could have sworn I posted. I only check the forum when I see the "new posts" indicator, since otherwise there's no reason to check up on things. Not having seen posts for a while (I must have had a cookie error or something, and not seen it for Grace's post), and thinking I'd posted, I haven't checked the thread in a while.

So sorry... frown

How about a little history?

The replacement lighthouse constructed at the end of the pier in 1934 still stands. The tower originally displayed a 4th-order Fresnel lens. The U.S. Coast Guard maintained the light until 1968. In 1995 the lens was removed and replaced with a modern optic. The station is solar powered, and the beacon flashes alternating white and red for 10 seconds each.

Ok, here's a lens room, Do you know what lighthouse it belongs to?

Clue: There is decor on this lens room that is only found on two lighthouses in the U.S. If you see it, you can probably identify the lighthouse.

Pensacola has eagle heads too (they are black) and I think Sandy Hook has them also (not sure of the color).

I don't know whether this is the proper forum and place to ask but...

I came across this picture

in DeSoto's Seafood Kitchen in Gulf Shores Alabama. Is it a real lighthouse, or just a figment of the artist's imagination?

Sorry for the delay - had to find a picture that would take people more than 2 minutes to identify. Figure this one might take 5.....

The twin of Bailey's Harbor Rear Range, Presque Isle Rear Range.

I think the photographer ignored the "PRIVATE PROPERTY" signs to get that shot.

Hey, don't rag on my poor old fat fingers typing on a stressed out keyboard......

(1) No "no trespassing" sign posted, at least not where it could be seen
(2) That picture was taken from the hedgerow seperating the home from the parking lot
(3) Part of what Brindfan noted, but also cropped down.

Don't forget to get a picture posted to replace the one guessed.

Try using a seven year old keyboard, and I have old fat fingers too. laugh Although, I may be one of the "youngest" people on these boards.

I just happened to see this and thought that I would inject life into the thread by responding. If I am not mistaken, I have seen pictures of Stonington Harbor Lighthouse that show brick work that looks like that of the above pic. Am i correct?

It is truly odd that a lighthouse enthusiast such as myself would live in one of the only 3 states east of the Mississippi that does not have a lighthouse. Go figure. :p
