The name of the game is "Timeline". Here's how it works: We're working with the years of important events in individual lighthouses' histories. One person will list a year, a lighthouse, and an event that took place in that year at that light. The next person has to find another light with a DIFFERENT event that happened the next year. Once we run out of events going forward in time, we'll go back to my original event and go backwards. And so on and so forth, bouncing between 1716 and 2004/5. The twists and rules: -Why is "different" in caps? When you post an event, it cannot be the same thing as happened in the previous event. Example: My event is a lighthouse getting a new lens. The next person cannot make their event have to do with getting a lens in a light. This might get a bit confusing...go with your gut feeling. -Your event MUST be in the next year in the direction of play. If the previous post was 1876, you must post an 1875 (for backwards in time) or 1877 (for forwards in time). -All lights must be in the US. -You must provide a link to a webpage with the fact you are presenting on it. -One post per person per day. Here's my event...it's pretty obvious. 1896 - Sea Girt, NJ light lit in December. Link Have fun!

1897 Egg Rock ME Lighthouse Rebuilt You forgot to include a link in your post, Greg. Now this is a game made for Google! Enter "1898 Lighthouse" and see what comes up. It should be a fast moving game. Since I've started 'down' in years, Greg, how do we get moving back in the other direction? I suggest we keep moving down until no one can find a more recent year event, and can start moving back in history from your original year. While you've said the next post can't be the same as the previous one (event), that shouldn't mean that another post later on can't be a lighting event, does it?

The year 1898 -- Grays Harbor Lighthouse, WA
Christian Zauner served as the first keeper from October 30, 1898 until July 31, 1925. Grays Harbor Lighthouse was recently awarded to the Westport South Beach Historical Society through the National Lighthouse Preservation Act. This Tuesday, August 24, will be the date of the conveyance, with a grand celebration beginning at 3:00pm. The lighthouse is open for regular tours until Labor Day, conducted by the Westport Maritime Museum staff.

Leave it to me to forget the link... I got so engrossed in brushing up the guidelines, I forgot the link. Sorry.
I like the idea of moving along in time. I am going to edit the rules to change the game as such. Much better than hopping around.
Yes, a later post can be a lighting event, but not two succesive ones. It's not a big deal unless there are two identical or almost identical events next to each other.
Check the edited rules in my first post. Thanks, John, for the idea!

1900, Bolivar Lighthouse withstands one of the two worst storms recorded on the Texas Gulf coast. It was said that 125 lives were saved through the efforts of the keeper. The winds caused the tower to sway so badly that the machinery shut down, and Claibourne, the keeper, kept it going with his own hands to keep the beacon shining. Bolivar Judy

Come on all you newbies and Wackos. This one is EASY and it's FUN to add a bit of knowledge about lighthouses. Just use Google, enter the next year and the work lighthouse and you'll get a bunch of items from which to choose.
As I promised many of the Cruise Directors...
No Heavy Lifting.

Dave,
With posts at 19 minutes apart, maybe Jim is on Krypton Time. I understand that it spins a lot faster. Or maybe he was just too excited to hold back.
