Maybe we need a clue? Maybe the way they're broken down in those words makes it harder? Maybe we should start with one word lighthouses and graduate to multi word lights? Maybe we should scramble each word in multi word lights?

If extra letters were identified by brackets, it'd kind of negate the point - you can just ignore the bracketed letter, and it's a normal puzzle. [z]kwon ouy?
