Below is today's Light picture to be named. Here’s a brief list of guidelines that will be used. 1. Every Thursday a new light will be presented, barring problems. 2. The light may be from anywhere in the world. 3. Request that we limit guesses to 1/person/day 4. A hint will be provided every day starting on the 2nd day. 5.I will keep/post the running scores if desired, scoring will be by points assigned for difficulty (1-5). 6. Post your guesses to this thread. 7. Your input with photos appreciated and acknowledged when used.8. This is a 5 ! HAVE FUN ! Current scores (as of 8/8/2001): Derith - 10 Oseabee - 5 Mombo - 3 Ladybug - 4 gebbyk - 4 Hint 8/10 - located in the country's principal steel producing city. Hint 8/11 - enhanced picture, the breakwater was built in the 5th century BC, modern light. Hint 8/12 - was once a Mediteranean leading port in the Middle East, in the same league as Alexandria and Constantinople. Today, it is home primarily to small fishing boats.
(Very tough, as I've found only 1 reference to this light in HOURS of searching!) ------------------ [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 08-09-2001).] [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 08-10-2001).] [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 08-11-2001).] [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 08-12-2001).]

Not TYRE. I also have spent many hours researching and have found only a single reference/photo to it. When this game is over, I like to enlist the aid of some other experts as I'd like to get it at least mentioned with a few sources, websites, etc. I have no specifics on the lighthouse itself, other than it is a modern light, and its location, with the few tidbits of info already presented. ------------------ [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 08-12-2001).]

This was a toughie!!. It is known as "The Tower of Flies" Light as it is located in the Tower of Flies Fortress on the harbour. AKKO is also known in more modern times as Acre, Israel. If anybody has any specific details about the light, I'd be interested just because info seems sosscarce on this light. Good work Mombo!! Current scores now are: Derith - 10 Oseabee - 5 Mombo - 8 Ladybug - 4 gebbyk - 4 Seeya all this Thursday, 8/16 with the next light!! ------------------ [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 08-13-2001).]

Boy, this one really sent me into the research mode....I tried every Israeli port I could think of with the help of a 5th Century map.....what fun George!! These are great to pump the ole' brain and to get reacquainted with history some of us have long forgotten. Even solicited my husbands help with trying to find this one....GREAT WORK, SUE!!!

Me too!. I was scrambling for clues to give. Spent many hours on searches for Info on this light but came up with very little, but I did learn a little about history. Here again, I hope everyone enjoys these as much as I enjoy doing them!!

I LOVE this game, and I'm not even participating (I'm not quite at the level of the likes of Nana and Mombo)... The NTF Game is even a fun "spectator sport" . Keep up the good work everyone and, maybe someday, I'll even be able to wager a guess .

JC: dive on in, it cost you nothing and as you said it appears to be fun for all!!!! (By the way, not many are at the level of Nana & Mombo, so don't let that keep you from participating.) Join us, and if you have any photos to share in the NTFGame we'll be sure to try and use them! [This message has been edited by pharologst (edited 08-13-2001).]

The difference between Derith and I is that she gets to see more lights in person while I see most of them "on the web"! Sure we may have an advantage identifying some of them due to participation in the "International Lighthouse Game". But anyone can sure solve these, all you have to do is "search"! This is a great game George, now wouldn't you have just croaked if anyone had gotten the answer to this one when all you showed was a bit of breakwater? Although it was a toughie using the ensuing clues made it even more fun to solve.

Congratulations Sue and thanks for the link.
Thanks George -- I had fun trying to search this one out even if I didn't find it. Visited many international lighthouses on the web for the first time and learned a thing or two along the way.
Thanks Derith for the links.
Hi JC -- don't be bashful about wagering a guess; hope to see you playing soon.

Sue is right JC. This is a game for anyone and we really like to see new folks playing. The international game has opened up a whole new world of lighthouses....and it's fun.
Geroge, love this game!
AND: Dave, you are too much!

OK all you 'experts', during your road or internet travels try to come up with a few interesting photos for the game so that I can keep a supply in reserve. I'd like to keep this game going for a long time. THanks in advance.
