My brother has an article that was in the newspaper a couple of days ago on the Egmont Key Lighthouse. I haven't read it yet but they tell of how there will no longer be maintained by the NPS. The lighthouse is headless but now without someone caring for it there will surely be vandalism as there was when Anclote Key light had no park oversight. I wonder if Egmont Key light will ever be restored like the wonderful Anclote Key Light. Probably not at this point.

There is a non-profit group that is trying to save the lighthouse, as well as the island and the ruins of the fort. It is not the NPS but the State Park service that may leave due to budget cuts. They are appealing to the legislature and the governor. We will know more next week. The lighthouse was recently painted for the 150 anniversary. More work could be done once the ownership issue is worked out (and hopefully the State decides to stay).

So it sounds as if there is a chance the State Park Service might stay? Glad to hear there is a non-profit group trying to save it. It is always so sad to see a LH fall into the hands of vandals. Egmont Key is not that far from where I grew up (St. Petersburg) so I always hoped the light would be restored.

Thanks, Eric, for the information.

Judy
