Hello;
Hi to everyone on HL forum!
My soon to be wife and I are spending our
honeymoon up in Door County Wis. We have no
problem finding places to stay on our visit
but we feel in the dark about the lighthouse
situation which is one big reason we planned to make Door County our honeymoon vacation.
We will be up there the first week in June.
Does anybody at HL have any suggestions?
Your information would be appreciated.
Thankyou!
James R. Smith

For more Internet information on the lighthouses of Door County, use the Internet Index of Lighthouse Links. Then check the Wisconsin listings.

www.HarbourLights.com/links/new_links.shtml

I'm sure some of our regulars from Wisconsin will provide you with more details as well.

Welcome to the Forums!

Hi James!
As a former Wisconsinite, I can tell you it will be beautiful up there in June. There are quite a few lighthouse up there in Door County, and quite a variety. As John said, the best place to look is the internet link page, but I just wanted to put in a plug for the Sturgeon Bay LH. It's one of my particular favorites.

James-

I just came from there! It's a great place, very beautiful and some great lights. A book that we found EXTREMELY helpful (it was the only book that we used in fact) was "A Traveler's Guide to 116 Western Great Lakes Lighthouses" by Penrose. Their books are extremely informative and give many lights and great and very detailed directions. A MUST for any Great Lakes lighthousing trips.

Jakers

And I would have to agree, Sturgeon Bay is a must.

James,

Drop down a few topics to the one about Sherwood Point & there is some discussion about Door County. Door County has more lighthouses than any other county in the US! Jakers is right about Penrose's book. Actually there are 3 books- Western GL, Eastern GL & Michigan. $15 each, all in B&W but very, very useful. They are our main info source for travels around the GL. If you can't find them in your area I do believe HL does sell them.

Here are some links to Door County to help-
The Lighthouses of Door County
http://www.usalights.com/lakes/doorcounty.htm
The Door County Lighthouse Walk
http://www.dcmm.org/lighthouse_walk.html

Do be sure to visit the Internet Index and enjoy all the links it has!

Congratulations on your upcomming marriage.

Dave

James,
Don't leave out the Pottawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island. It is Door Counties oldest light. I will be up there on June 22-26 helping restore it. It is the adopted light of the Harbour Lights Collectors Club-Great Lakes District.

Hey, Jim J., how come you didn't tell him here to postpone his honeymoon until July 16 so he could attend the HL regional in Milwaukee, Wis, which you recently posted on the Club News Forum?? Little promo work here, why not?

How about a run-down on the events to expect? I am in the midst of re-arranging my summer plans so I can attend in my native city and would like to know what to plan for.

Jim congrats on the wedding. My parents lived in sturgeon bay, and while i live in ca,i presently have 4 visitors from sister bay \,wi, which is in northern door county. all the books are good, but if you really want the scoop, stop at the coast guard station, at the sturgeon bay light house, and they are more than happy to spend the time needed to get you what you want. don't miss the fishboil at pelatiers in fish creek. or at the viking in ellison bay. its to bad door county cannot facilitate a group of 1000, because it would be a great place for the next reunion.
