I know we have New Point Loma, Rose Island, and now Point Fermin[society & charter] (does anyone know the numbers produced on these?), but what happened to the rumoured other minis seen at Rosemount?
Anyone know?

I found part of my answer from St John.
on a previous post: http://216.46.163.97/forums/Forum19/HTML/000025.html

"Assuming someone joined in 1995 AND remains a member today, at what price would they give up one of those "Charter Member" pieces? Seems like it will be very dear. However, quantities should be MUCH higher than the NPL Mini (480) and Rose Island Mini (700).
There were 6,511 Society purchasers of Point Fermin. Since not everyone who was a member didn't purchase Fermin, the number of members then (1995) could be higher. Now how many 1995 members remain members today? HL apparently knows because they will be mailing a redemption certificate for the "Charter Member" version."
Do we know now?

One thing to consider Bob, is that most reunion attendies were able to pick up a mini for themselves, their better halves, and any children that may have attended. They then probably had an extra or two to sell.

The Charter members who ordered the Fermin mini's are only allowed one per charter membership. I doubt if many (who have kept the membership from the beginning) are going to part with their only one. Just a thought.

I was a lucky one who was able to find one of each. Many others out there with both?

Both are in my collection. And NO, I will not part with either of them.

Hey Lamar....would you trade for the SoL, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Washington Monument, and a bronze bust of Bill Clinton?

I don't think so Bob. I already have SoL on order, I have a partial replica of the Brooklyn Bridge (Jeffery's Hook), I have a crystal replica of the Washington Monument, and I have no use for Bill.

Thanks for the offer though!

Lamar, Jeffrey Hook is under the George Washington Bridge. Probably a better investment than the BB.

The "Little Light of Mine" line of miniature lighthouses is expected to be available in early 2000. The initial group will include about 12 lighthouses. The size of pieces will be approximately 3" high and 3" wide. This will be the same size as the New Point Loma Miniature, the Rose Island Miniature, and the Point Fermin 5th Anniversary Miniature.

I don't know, although at Rosemont I saw four items in this line. I'd say you should expect the same fine detail, but without outlying buildings or attached trees.

Paul has a photo of some of those. Perhaps he'll post one in here.

Thanks for the info JC. I'll be anxiously awaiting those! Which 4 did you see at Rosemount?
Would love to see those photos Paul?
Any idea on how many Port Fermin mini Charter member pieces were made?

May as well put Grandpa (HL102) and Grandma (HL102R) in the shot with the rest of the family....would that then be 5 generations of the family tree? or is the mini and thumbnail sisters?

Paul, If you line up all of the HL Hatteras to date it would be neat to see them form all angles, including a birds-eye view. Thanks for your fine photos, they have helped all of us to become more informed and make decisions about these future minis.

Harbour Lights told me last week that they would be releasing 24 minis just after the first of the year. The retail price will be between $20 & $25 each (not final yet). The minis will also be carried by retailers not currently selling HL LE pieces.

Gay

****** UPDATE ******

My husband spoke with HL yesterday and there will indeed be 24 pieces in their initial launch. They are being produced & packaged in cartons of 24 for the retailers. The retail price is not quite firm but should be UNDER $20 each. HL may also be offering minis that have not yet been done a LE !!!! (according to KY)

You're right, Gay, ... My dealer told me the minis were coming out after the first of the year and they would number in the twenties.

I'll have to get a look at them before I buy. Does anyone know if they are LEs or OEs? I'm also concerned about displaying them. They'll have to be away from their larger parent LEs. The other factor is $$$! How much money can folks devote to HLs in a year.

When this subject first came up I believe I heard they were OE's. I just got one of those 1/2 boat things you hang on a wall. They come in various sizes and have 2 to 3 shelves. These might look nice in them.

I'm not sure how serious Bob intended his comment about $$$$ spent per year on HL's to be, but I would guess that it is becoming a very relavent factor to more than a few collectors. By the time you add up all of the LE's, GLOW's, Thumbnail's, Ornaments, Society pieces, Event pieces, the upcoming International series, The Days Gone By series, the Anchor Bay ships, and now the Little Lighthouse of Mine new line it's becoming something of a hardship to keep up with the ever increasing flow. A secondary effect is the requirement for a new curio or display area every year. And all of that doesn't include trying to pick up a piece or two missed from prior years. I hope the average collector doesn't drown, burn out, or become frustrated with the cascade of new offerings. It might be interesting, and Rod has probably already computed it, to see what the new introduction piece quantity was in 98 and 99, and what the projection might be for 2000. The more important calculation might be to estimate what the cost to acquire one of everything in 2000 will add up to.

Does anyone know if the minis will be of lighthouses that have already been made into LE or is this going to be another GLOW issue, i.e. Fire Island and Mukilteo?

I did want to buy the minis when I saw them, but on thinking about it, three minis equals one recently issued LE. With limited funds, I believe I will concentrate on LE's, an occasional GLOW and avoid the minis.

We'll see how well this plan works.

If I had the time I would figure it out but I'm sure someone else already has. St. John, or Rod, do you have the cost for each year if you bought all the HL releases at retail?

As a different line of lighthouses, "This Little Light Of Mine" is not bound by the Harbour Lights' promise of "No GLOW until first a limited edition and then retired".

Expect to see 24 "Little Lights" after the first of the year and around 24 more in June 2000. Prices under $20. All of the first 50 have been issued as LEs under "Harbour Lights".

"Little Lights" are not numbered, not limited by 'edition' size. As the line grows, expect to see some regionally popular lighthouses done that may not have been done by Harbour Lights.

The markets for the "Little Lights" is expected to be regionalized. Buyers might be tourists, as well as locals.

HL Dealers are being offered the choice of carrying them or not. For some retailers, this line will fit in with their overall product line; for other HL retailers "Little Lights" may not 'fit in' with their product lines -- such as a collectible store carrying 'higher end' limited editions. In either case, other local retail outlets may also carry the "Little Lights".

Lets figure this out, ... approximately 50 lights the first year just under a $20 price tag would come out to just under $1000.00. Factor in another $1000 for another curio and the possibility is you've spent $2000. So if a person has a budget of $1000 a year to spend on HLs, he or she would have the option of buying the 50 new minis or a dozen or so current LEs.

I'm hooked on the LEs and have a strong committment to get them all. I would probably not get into doing the same thing with the new minis.

On a teachers salary, I really stretch to buy the LE's that I do. I can not display or afford all of the ones HLs has produced. I am very selective in the pieces that I buy simply because I have to be. If my salary suddenly increased perhaps I could afford more, maybe even the ones that are selling for thousands of dollars. But since I don't see that happening anytime soon, I won't start with the minis.

I'd have to agree with Bob I'm just getting started on the LE's with an occasional GLOW thrown in, but to add the mini's is to much for me. I'll continue to focus on the LE's. I may pick up a mini of a favorite light such as Point Reyes or Point Vicente, if they cmoe out with one. For the most part it's LE's for me.

The minis will offer a way to share our love for lighthouses by allowing us a simple inexpensive way to hook our friends and loved ones. I have done this with some of the Christmas ornaments and have very positive responses. They'll be a good alternative for children on allowances. They'll also compete as the favorite remembrance from a that particular lighthouse's gift shop for a larger population.
I don't think it's meant to be a collectors' product, although I think many of us will dabble.

Another option might be to just buy one or two of the minis of your favorite lights, eg.Portland Head or Hatteras, to display with the LEs and/or the GLOWS. Just a thought....

I will continue to concentrate on the LEs myself.

I have a bathroom done up with lighthouse wallpaper and pictures. I also have a shelf in there where I keep my ornaments and my Fermin mini. I may buy a couple other mini's just for that room, but that would be all, particularly if they came out with one that was close to my heart that wasnt available any other way. I do like the idea of using them as gifts though, to hook others on my addiction!
