A limited quantity of 100 Avery Point Commemorative Re-Lighting Coins is now available for purchase by the general public.

Each 1.5-inch coin comes in a beautiful gift box that is lined with crushed blue velvet-like material adorned with a bow.

These coins commemorate the re-lighting of the Avery Point Lighthouse on October 15, 2006 after a six-year effort by the Avery Point Lighthouse Society (a chapter of The American Lighthouse Foundation) to Save, Restore and Re-Light this lighthouse built by the U.S.C.G. on the grounds of their training station in Groton, CT. The light was first lit on May 2, 1944 and remained active until the Coast Guard vacated the property on June 25, 1967 leaving the tower in darkness and vulnerable to the elements.

Weather and vandals wreaked havoc with the tower over the years until 2000 when the Avery Point Lighthouse Society (APLS) was formed and spearheaded a grassroots campaign to save this historic structure from the wrecking ball. Lighthouse lovers from around the country (including Collector Forum members here) contributed to the various fundraisers for this tower, including the purchase of memorial bricks in the 840-foot memorial walkway leading up to the lighthouse today.

The front of this commemorative coin has a beautiful depiction of a shining Avery Point lighthouse along with the three dates (establishment, light extinguished and re-lighting). The back contains info about APLS and the desire to celebrate the Past, Present and Future by honoring the U.S.C.G, those who contributed to saving this lighthouse, and our children – the future keepers.

You may also celebrate this success story and the fact that the Avery Point Lighthouse will be sending out a beacon of safe harbor and passage to mariners again, thanks to the efforts of a united lighthouse community.

To make sure you receive your limited edition coin(s) you need simply send a check for $11.50 each ($10 for the Gift-boxed Coin and $1.50 Shipping & Handling) made out to APLS to:

APLS
P.O. Box 1552
Groton, CT 06340

Please, indicate on the check memo (lower left) the number of coins you are ordering. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED – DON’T MISS OUT!!!

Ron,

Your pictures of Avery Point Commemorative Re-Lighting Coins show only a box with a red "x" inside.

Could you please correct? Thank you.

Wow!! The response both here and in emails has been great. In the last two days over 30 of the coins have been purchased.

Thank you all for your continued support.

If you think you want to have one of these commemorative coins I urge you not to wait to place an order.

Ron,
The Avery Point Lighthouse commemorative re-lighting coin brings back the good memories of our visit to the lighthouse, although restoration
had not been completed at that time.

Please, reserve a coin for us. The check will be
mailed Tuesday.

Thanks again,
Bruce & Judy

Ron, I am sure you will sell out in no time! I am very disappointed that I have had to cut my trip short and will not be there for the Avery Point relighting. I was looking forward to the weekend with NELL. Fortunately, I will be able to make it to the Regional in Maine, along with Dave's trip, but have to return as soon as that is over. Take lots of your beautiful pictures for me to see! smile

Hi Ron,

We just returned from a two-week trip and found out about the coin tonight at a meeting. If you have any left we would like one. We'll put a check in the mail tomorrow.

Thanks,
Judy and Bill
