The brick party is on, some details:

Brick Restoration Party for Cape St. George Lighthouse

What: An opportunity to do hands on restoration of a lighthouse. This will involve chipping 1850’s mortar off of the bricks salvaged. Tools will be provided, however, we suggest you bring work gloves.

When: Saturday November 11th, 2006.

Where: Eastpoint, Florida. Eastpoint is between St. George Island and Apachicola.

Details: Tents will be setup to provide shade and cover in the unlikely event of rain.

If you are traveling and need a place to stay, it is off season and we will try to get additional discounted rates on hotels.

If a site for the re-building is nailed down by then, we will visit the site.

I will be there sometime Friday afternoon for those arriving early.

Nearby lighthouses – San Blas, St. Joe (private but can been seen from the road) and Crooked River. St. Marks is about one hour away.

More details to follow. PLEASE email me at ericlighthouse@yahoo.com if interested and let me know if you will need a hotel room Friday or Saturday night or both. (This info will help when we talk to the hotels). Also a head count will help other planning, if you are still unsure, still email me. THANKS, Eric

Bill and Judy, there are a lot of bricks so more may need to be done when you arrive. I will give a report after the event (I would be surprised if it all got done).

Grace, just got a reply from a WACKO in South Carolina. My little sister from Tallahassee is also coming. A maybe from Tennessee and several maybe's from FLA (their next meeting is October, so may get a few more signed up then. Of course the people from the local area will be invited. I have also sent invites to the lighthouse groups at San Blas, Crooked River, St. Marks and even Pensacola.

On the flip side some people who live far away don't have leave time or they already have other plans. However, big or small group we will make progress and hopefully spark some additional interest.

The lantern room MAY be ready for viewing by November/December depending on the foundary and a team of people to assemble the pieces.

Just in. The Gibson Inn (just across the bridge from eastpoint in Apalachicola) is offering a 20% discount off regular rates. laugh Ask for St. George Island lighthouse discount . Their website is at http://www.gibsoninn.com/
Phone number is 850-653-2191

I have ask a couple others for discounts and will update when I get that info.

By the way, The Gibson Inn has been one of the local business supporters of the lighthouse.

Staring time is 9:00 A.M., we will have hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch, then work till we get tired or run out of light.

Also we can visit the site for the lantern room to be displayed (and possible permanent site for the lighthouse)on St. George Island.

Please send me an email if you are coming.
