The hard working folks at Cape St. George Lighthouse, sent me an email. They are going to salvage the lighthouse, but they need some addition funds now . The lighthouse is in the surf and they need to get the pieces out as soon as possible. They have contacted several salvage companies and want to start this week.

Cape St. George Lighthouse group has a letter of intent with a salvage company and are waiting for permits from D.E.P.
If weather is good the group will be gathering up loose bricks this Saturday.

Well, I do hope you have a good response. Unfortunately, money is tight for a lot of folks right now. A lot of people and their families were affected by the storms, the holiday season is upon us, and fuel prices will have an impact this winter. However, this is also the beginning of the tax season when those with more money make their tax deductible contributions. There are a lot of such folks; I wonder if there is any type of concerted effort to reach them. I know this is when a lot of charities make their Christmas pitch. Why not lighthouses? Cape St. George, New Canal, and others affected by the storms could make a year-end pitch, too. Of course, I'm preaching to the choir here.

UPDATE on the salvage operations. To make a long story short, the government still has not given the group permission to recover the pieces of the lightouse. They are hopeful it will come this week. ONCE salvage operations start, they will have to pay a penalty for everyday the weather is to rough to work, so they are wishing for good weather for a period long enough to get the job done (saving funds for the rest of the restoration).
