White Island Lighthouse is falling! Help us save this piece of History

The Lighthouse Kids
Our Mission and Effort

What is the White Island Lighthouse? It's a historical landmark of New England's past, and a pillar of protection of light for northeastern mariners. It's also New Hampshire's only offshore lighthouse. Did you know that this magnificent white brick tower is New England's Most Endangered Lighthouse? Yes, that's right! The White Island Lighthouse could crumble if it were hit with a couple of harsh storms.

Updates
International Lighthouse Convention
We went to speak to the American Lighthouse Foundation Conference in New Bedford, Massachusetts to raise money and gain awareness. We became a non- profit organization by joining the American Lighthouse Foundation. This meaning if you make a donation it will be tax deductible. We received many donations that have been helping us greatly.

Trips to White Island Lighthouse
We have gone on multiple trips out to White Island this fall. On one of are most recent trips we planted a rose bush in honor of Celia Thaxter. On all trips we've taken pictures of the lighthouses cracks and taken measurements to document the on going deterioration of the lighthouse. On our second trip we were accompanied by a photographer from Yankee Magazine.

NECN and Chronicle Interviews
The Lighthouse Kids have been interviewed by both NECN and New Hampshire Chronicle. We were very excited to be interviewed and to have these opportunities to get our message out to so many people.

Rotary Club Presentations
We also went to speak to the Portsmouth and Hampton Rotary Clubs to raise money and gain awareness.

Presentation to a State of New Hampshire Legislative Committee
We testified in support of House Bill 274-A before the House Resources and Recreation Committee at the New Hampshire State Capitol Building in Concord on January 28, 2003. If passed this bill would provide the $125,000 dollars in State funds for restoration of the lighthouse. Lighthouse Kids funds would then be used for maintenance of the lighthouse and renovation of the Keepers Cottage. Thanks to the Honorable State Representative Rogers Johnson for leading us through the legislative process.

NH Lighthouse License Plate
We are circulating a petition to have a license plate created featuring the White Island Lighthouse. The proceeds would benefit the restoration and maintenance of the Lighthouse and Keeper's Cottage.

Donations
Donations are steadily coming in and we are very appreciative of them. We recently received a donation of $5000 from Timberland Corporation. Thank you Timberland!!

Paul,

A check from MJ and me will be in the mail in the morning. This lighthouse needs everyone's help NOW!!..... before it is too late. Thank you for posting this. I urge all lighthouse lovers reading this to send the kids a donation. This is a great project and these kids deserve a lot of credit for stepping up to save this historic treasure for future generations to enjoy.
