August 23: Lighthouse, Maritime History & Fireworks Cruise

Board the "Peconic Star II" for a cruise on the waters of eastern Long Island and Gardiner's Bay. Learn about the unique maritime history of the area including that of Plum Island and Gardiner's Island. Hear recent findings about the Revolutionary War history of the area, and see where the first engagement between British and Continental troops took place. We will follow the routes of American and British war ships in their 1812 - 1814 naval engagements. See the Orient Point, Plum Island, Little Gull Island, Race Rock and Long Beach Bar lighthouses close up, and hear about their history. Enjoy a close-up view of Gardiner's Island, where Captain Kidd buried his treasure and the site of its lighthouse and fortification.

After the lighthouse and history portion of our cruise we will then sail over to Sag Harbor to view the Grucci Fireworks display celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Sag Harbor Fire Department.

The "Peconic Star II" provides better close-up views of these lighthouses than any other cruise vessel. Maritime and lighthouse history narration provided by local historian, Dr. Merlon E. Wiggin.

Board the boat in Greenport at 3:30 pm. Cost is $85.00 for members or $90.00 for non-members, includes meal and Long Island wine. Space is limited.
