OK here we go and I'm looking for some input. The prizes are in and they are great. However, we still don't have the tax free thing worked out yet. We do have an account setup to receive the fund, but it isn't a business account. Is the federal tax, no state tax in Texas, a problem?

We are in the process of becoming an USLHS chapter but that will take many moons.

We are set to go and to get ready here is our prize list and please drop our donor a note and thank them for their nice donations.

Grand Prize: Navesink HL200 #4816 signed by BY Donated by Ron Foster
1st Cape Florida HL209 #9669 signed by NY Donated by Dale Lawrence

Good start Chuck, all you need to do is spell Randy's name right and give an address to send for the opportunities. The USLHS won't take as long as you think. Once they accept you they'll send you an chapter nonprofit letter which piggybacks you on their status and you can use it for your bank accounts. Your major problem will be getting enough members to start the Chapter.
Good Luck,
Bob

Thanks for the heads-up on Randy's name. Sorry Randy . The 50 members is what I too consider to be the major problem. But Texas is a large area and I am going to try for Louisana which is only 3 hrs away by car. Everything is far in Texas, our favorite place to eat is a 45 min drive and it takes 1.5 hours to cross Houston, plus I drive 20 miles one-way to work and that is considered close by Texas standards.

That's OK Chuck! If I had a dollar for everytime my last name has been spelled wrong in my life, I could buy that Hatteras (mold 1) a few times over!

OK Chuck, how much and where do we send the money? Who should the check be made out to?

Also, when will the drawing take place and how will you get the winners their prizes?

Sorry for all of the questions, but just want to help out a bit.

Thanks & Good Luck,
Ron

50 members? So what all is involved in Membership? How much are the dues? And what are the requirements for membership? I live in Alabama and have most of my life, but I do own property in Montgomery County, TX (New Caney). Not that I could make many (or any) meetings, I would consider joining your new membership. Also I have a sister that lives in Ft. Worth, she is a lighthouse Lover too. And being that her Children and Grand-children live in Houston, she makes lots of trips down that way. I'm sure that I could talk her into joining as well.

How does "Gulf Coast Chapter, United States Lighthouse Society" strike you guys?

You need to broaden your appeal and include Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.

You should be able to solicit membership from all four states and reach 50. But getting together for a meeting would be a bit tough. USLHS may allow you to contact their present members in those states to see if they want to form a Gulf Coast Chapter.

The Chesapeake Chapter covers a large area but not nearly as large as we're looking at here.

And don't forget that many of your Forum Friends may join with you to help get to 50. Most USLHS chapter dues are $10 or so per year (plus your USLHS dues paid only once) so many people belong to several different chapters.

We have all the details worked out on the drawing. I am waiting to hear back from the other Keepers on the guidelines for the drawing. Once I hear back from them we will post all of the info you want. That first post was to get your attention and it seems to have worked. I have set a tentative date of July 4th for the drawing. I will be in Califorina this coming week seeing some lights and getting educated at Asilomar. The USLHS said that they would send a list of members in Texas we could approach to join the chapter. The HL Keepers dues are $15/year and the USLHS dues are $35 on top of that. I believe we could cover the Gulf no problem. We could hold our meetings a the Cousashata Casino in Louisana. Of course I don't think much business would get done.

Chuck & Becki

What is the latest on the opportunity drawing? Are you ready to begin selling tickets yet? Just want to make sure I don't miss the opportunity to join in the fun, as well as help lighthouse preservation in your neck of the woods.

Just returned from Calif. a few hours ago and sorting through the email and everything else. Once I sort through everything I will post all the details. I should be caught-up and have it post on Monday or Tuesday. I want to thank all the donor for their patients while we sort this stuff out we are almost there.
