Sorry for the delay but if you go to the this link http://jonespoint.garoux.net/recent_history.htm and scroll to the bottom you can see the pictures of the fourth and fifth order lenses that the Mount Vernon Chapter of the Daughter of the American Revolution had restored. The Lighthouse Keepers Forum paid for the repair of the hinge of the fourth order. Now on display at the Lyceum Museum in Alexandria, Virginia until Feburary 2009. They will then be moved to a more permanent location nearby. The Chesapeake Chapter of the United States Lighthouse Society did the cleaning and repair over a 14 month period (except the 4th order hinge). Dave Hannum gets credit for getting the Chapter involved. For those who don't know the fourth order was in the garden of one of the ladies of the D.A.R. (they did not realize the value of what they had.) They are thankful to all the parties that helped in this project.

Eric,
Thanks for the link--well worth the wait for it to load. Wouldn't recognize the lenses after the cleaning. Wonderful sequence of photographs.

It is hard to believe the lens in the museum are the lens in the first pictures! Thank you for the great restoration work Marie and Jerry!
Eric, you say the 4th order lens was in one of the ladies garden, I am assuming just as some sort of decortative object. It's a miracle the len survived.

Yes Melody, the fourth order was in the garden under a tree. Luckily one could not see it from the road or it might have gotten legs and never come back (theft was one of my big worries, so I did not talk about it until the lens was in a safe place).

UPDATE - The lenses are still at the Lyceum Museum in Alexandria, Virginia. It appears they will be there for the near future. (Originally they would only be there till Feb. 2009.)

The light is beautiful. Thank you for sharing the process with us. Those of us who can't see it at this time still get to share the glow.
