I am looking for a copy of Courtney Thompson's "Maine Lighthouses: A Pictorial Guide". Last year, I was ready to buy the book, when it vanished into thin air and out of print. I tried every communications method for the author, to no avail. So I thought I'd turn to the CF for a copy. Some notes... 1) I am looking for the third edition (2001). I'd prefer to have this one, as it is obviously updated. Don't want to get lost on the backroads of Maine. 2) It has to be in good condition. It doesn't have to be mint and never opened, but I'd rather the cover wasn't hanging off. 3) My price is $19.95 OBO. Thanks. I'm looking forward to finding a copy of this. Lesson for next time: "If it looks like it might not be available tommorow, buy it!" Please PM me if you have a copy, or if you know my email, email me. If this is not the right place for this inquiry (I wasn't sure where to put it), then a person with the power to do so is more than welcome to move it.

I think I might try that one. It seems to be third, being on the page, and if not, I can get a refund or exchange with amazon's "A-Z Guarantee", whereas if it is "materially different" from what is advertised, you can file a claim. I figure, if it is a second or first edition, advertised on the third edition page, I am eligible for a refund, right? Thinking out loud... Thanks Paul!

Greg, how about this book as an alternative? http://www.lighthouse.cc/orderbook.html While the Thompson books are more colorful this one is a lot more bang for your bucks. Lots of lights, great histories and directions. I have the 4th edition and think that the 5th edition is pretty new.

I already have a copy of that, but thanks! One of the BEST books I have. However, I like to have the Thompsons, too, as they are a nice backup reference.

Greg ...
First, I hope you do make it to Maine ... it truly is Mecca for Lighthouse Zealots ...
Secondly, the Thompson book is good ... for sure ... but the only reference you really need ... and we may have previously discussed this ... is ...
MAINE LIGHTHOUSE MAP AND GUIDE HARTNETT HOUSE MAP PUBLISHERS
This is a foldout guide with directions to EVERY lighthouse in the state in the most concise form imaginable. It's less than $10.00 and it was available at LH Depot when I prepared my trip.
Only knock is the print tends to be really ... really ... tiny. I did lots of copying and enlarging.
Look into it.

Not sure on the edition, but meets the rest of your qualifications...

Grover- I somehow have not one, but TWO Maine Map and Guides. There was a mixup with the Amazon wish list that I use for my Christmas and Birthday lists. I still have the extra in its wrapper, so I can sell it or have an extra. It is a GREAT guide. I used the copier at school to make it in a more book-like format, but I didn't enlarge it. I was able to add about 12 "If There's Time" lights to my Maine trip my it's reccomendations. It also tells you how far the light is for almost every offshore light, something no other guide does as much. Larry- Thanks for the link. It looks perfect, except for that it seems to be the second edition, and the hardcover. But thanks for the suggestion! I've been checking ABEBooks every week or so for a copy. ABE searches used bookstores across the country for what you're looking for. I've tried some other used online stores, too. Thanks for all your help!
