Wow I got my first postcard in the envelope yesterday. John, that card is "AWESOME!" I have not seen any like that. I have been to the outerbanks. You have to go. Thanks for the great card. Mine have not gone out, I'm going to Cape Cod in a couple of weeks, will restock there.

I too got my first card yesterday. I was at Bodie Island one week ago however it wasn't quite so foggy. You must see the Outer Banks lights. We got to see three. We didn't get down to Ocracoke due to time constraints so I'll get it the next time. My cards will go out shortly, I brought them back from the trip. Hey! I'm a WACKO... but then my family already knew that.

Thanks for the Bodie card, John...the photographer, Mike Hogan, got a great shot...wonder what time frame it was?

The postcards came from Lighthouse Gallery in Nags Head, NC and were picked out by Cindy upon my request and sent to John....so, I too had not seen this card...it's way cool.

I was very excited to receive my very first postcard in this exchange. Thanks, John! It is a really neat postcard.

Looking forward to receiving more postcards!

Will send mine out when I can make up my mind and pick one to send! We have visited several lighthouses lately and seen several postcards, however I just haven't been able to find a postcard I really like. Well, will be visiting a few more over the next few months, perhaps will find one then.

Thanks again to John!

Mine went out the other day so you should see them soon. My list of labels only had 21 names other than mine. Is this correct or am I missing someone?

Ed,
Received your Currituck post card in yesterday's mail. Thanks! On our trip to the Outer Banks two years ago, we managed to see all of the lights in spite of Hurricane Dennis. Currituck was definitely high on our list of favorites. Didn't see the wild horses either.

Ed, there are only 21 participants plus Harbour Lights, so your list is correct. I also received Ed's card of Currituck and the horses. Another nice addition to the collection.

I have purchased mine, so if I can get motivated I will get them out sometime in the next few (days/weeks/months) [pick which you think will be the final answer].

Thanks for the postcard Ed and for reminding me of my many memories of the Outer Banks. I did not see the horses, either while I was there. But, while I was riding out to Cape Lookout we did see a lot of wild horses on an island near the lighthouse.

Came home from a quick business trip to find a great card of St. Helena from Digger. Even sent it in a custom done envelope! (Some people just like to show off.) Another new one for the collection!

Hey Digger, you are "uptown" with your stationary! Did you purchase them that way or did you custom make them? Thanks for the card and writeup....say Hi to Becky for me.

Derith, I use a graphics program called Corel Draw for my everyday needs. It enables you to design and print in about any size format including many different size envelopes. My older printer (Canon 610) hated envelopes and never did print them right. Recently I purchased a large format printer to do prints (HP 1220c pro series). It is a real gem! It will print about any size up to 13"x19" and is all automatic. I just stick the paper (or envelope) in the tray and it automatically recognizes what it is and prints that format. It is GREAT for custom designed pages or envelopes and the $400 price pays for itself real fast when you consider what a print shop would charge for custom letterheads, envelopes, business cards, etc.

Got a card of the Pensacola, FL light courtesy of JoAnn Dawley in yesterday's mail. A scene you don't see often, from way down the beach. Still another new addition to the collection.

Time for a update on my postcard arrivals.
Nice one from Steve Erwin of St. Helena Island. Pensacola from JoAnn Dawley. And from Ed Huber, Currituck. All super nice postcards. Thanks everyone. I hope to get mine out in a couple of weeks. Staying at Selkirk next weekend. Should be fun.

Thanks JoAnn for the Pensacola card...can't wait to renew our friendship in Baltimore...for those of you who may have forgotten, JoAnn was the HL collector who met me on my first LH trip to WA state...she was a docent at North Head then and she had prepared a lovely lunch and took us to Cape Diappointment and the Lewis and Clark musuem. It was the first time I met another HL collector from the forum and what a treat it was.....

Just received the Boston Light postcard from Gary & Kay today. What a coincidence...I was at that lighthouse yesterday. We took a cruise out there through the Boston Harbor Islands National Park Service. My first time to Little Brewster Island and the Boston Light. What a great time we had. The weather was perfect and the people on the island were very nice and informative. Climbed all the way to the top of the light....what a great view of Boston, the harbor and a very upclose view of the fresnel lens in operation. From the island we could also see Grave Light. While on the Island we even got to meet the "official" lighthouse dog, Sam, who is a sweetheart!

Well, there goes my idea for the postcard exchange. I had seen some nice Boston Light postcards in Fanuel Hall and was going to buy some this upcoming weekend (didn't have time to stop there yesterday). Hope to visit another lighthouse or two before it gets too cold, so maybe I can pick up some postcards then.

Thanks for the card, Gary & Kay!

Linda Ann,

Speaking for myself, while it is always fun to get a card of a new light, getting a different card of the same light is OK. I had a pretty nice Chesapeake card to use, but in looking at my records about half the group received the exact same card in the very first exchange so I put it back for now. I will bet you can find some interesting cards in the Boston area, so I'll look forward to your choice.

Got two cards this week. Boston Light from Gary & Kay and Pensacola from Joanne. I spent some time at the Pensacola light earlier this year. I was by myself and had all the time I wanted to walk around and take pictures. A trip to the northeast is still in the future. Thanks for the great cards.

I just received a beautiful card of Tibbetts Point lighthouse from Laurie Morone. It was the final lighthouse I saw last year when I was in Rochester and I thought it was such a beautiful light and location! I took lots of pictures of the lights along Lake Ontario between Rochester and Tibbetts Point my last weekend there last October....but my film developer lost 5 rolls of film that included the pictures I took! I have the memories and thanks to Laurie I now have a postcard (I did get a refrigerator magnet of Tibbetts though...so I still look at it every day).

Doc John

PS I have my card to send...but I decided to hold off on sending it for now (you all will understand why when you get it).

HELP!!! I wanted to mail out my cards for "Postcard Exchange 6 in an envelope" and I can get the file to come up on my computer.

Could someone please send me the address list for PC-6 in a non-compressed form? Whoever sends it, could you make note of that fact as a reply in this thread so others won't have to respond to my request.

Many thanks in advance...

Bob

Bob, Bob, Bob.....

When I get home I will resend you the file in both Word format and in plain text for those who are using some lessor product. Now, understand that there will be an additional charge for this assistance.......

Thanks Laurie...your card of Tibbetts Point arrived in sunny Florida just as the tropical storm was blowing thru on Friday.
I'm making a list of lights to see on my Great Lakes trip, planned for retirement. Looks like I will have to see Tibbetts for sure.

Linda Ann,
Talk about coincidences...I have just returned home after being on a cruise for the past 2 weeks. I found out a couple of months ago that the day our ship was in port in Boston was a day the lighthouse was going to be open for a tour by the NPS. My husband and I and my sister and her husband from Phoenix were on the same tour with you on Sept. 9th. We probably saw each other and didn't even know it!

I managed to squeeze in a few minutes of extra time yesterday and made out all the envelopes for "postcard #6". They will be placed in the US Mail this morning so most of you will receive it by mid week, next week.

I also put a little extra surprise in the envelope for you folks...enjoy!

Thanks Bob and Lorie for the fantastic postcards. I received them both this week.

Bob, thanks for the litte something extra. What a great item to add to my lighthouse collection!

Lorie, thanks for the postard with the Sept 11th postmark on it. That date will forever be remembered in all our hearts. How was it leaving NY and seeing the WTC, then coming back and it was gone? That must have been heartbreaking.

And what a coincidence, Lorie, that we were both on the Boston Light tour together. I probably did see you as it was such a small group. What a great day we had, the weather was perfect! We really enjoyed our time on Little Brewster.

Thanks again, Bob and Lorie for the postcards. Gotta get to work on mine!

Dave...I was worried that the HL Reunion might be at the same time as my cruise. It was booked before I knew when the reunion was planned.

Thanks goodness I had 10 days to get home and be ready to fly to Baltimore! My family thinks I am a little wacky to plan two trips so close together. I already know that I'm a "wacko" and wouldn't want to miss out on my 3rd reunion.

Got Bob's card and extra surprise today. Thanks. Great pic of Nobska.

For those trying to figure out who has sent what so far here goes:
JoAnn 9/7 Pensacola; Lorie 9/27 Peggy's Cove; Laurie 9/15 Tibbetts Point; John 7/? Bodie; Ed 8/16 Currituck; Gary & Kay 9/10 Boston; Digger 8/22 St. Helena; Bob 9/26 Nobska.

I have mine. I have labels on the envelopes. I have been procrastinating getting the cover letter done. I need to get motivated, as I have a really neat and unique card to share.

I got Linda's card yesterday. Very nice.

Missed it on the NJ tour, but I've been there several times. Cpe May is a very pretty litle town with many great B&B's to stay at.

Some great restaurants also. The Mid Atlantic Center has done a tremendous job restoring many things in the area, including the Lightouse. It's a great place to spend a weekend any season, but I've got to get there in the Summer when the cruise to the Delaware Bay Lightouses is running.

Maybe next year.

Looks like things should pick up a bit here. I should have my cards in the mail tomorrow or Tuesday, Doc John mentioned elsewhere he was about to mail, and Judy's should be coming. The next month should be busy, as (by my count) there are 12 of us who have not yet sent our cards!

Have gotten 3 cards in the last week. Dave H, Bob Scroope and Doc John. Thanks guys, they are really nice. And can't wait to try the recipe, John.

I know! I know! Great card, John. A wonderful and appropriate pic of Ocracoke. John has also caused the whole post card exchange thing to now head off in a new direction by sharing a recipie with us.

And, Bob, you sure found an interesting card, of Long Island, of course. Thanks also for the map and locator of all the LI lights!

I also received 2 cards in the mail today from John Young and Bob Scroope. It sure is fun getting the little "extras" from both of you. I haven't seen a card from Dave H or Judy. I show 9 people still haven't sent cards.

This exchange is doing better than the exchange not in an envelope. I am missing 11 people in this group. There is still alot to receive before the end of the year and before the next exchanges start in Jan. 2002.

I put my cards in the envelope tonight and I hope to mail them tomorrow.

I got Bob's card,and Dave's, but not John's. I'll be looking for it .
