Continuation of Post Card Exchange #12 - Cards sent IN envelope thru October 31st.

I received an envelope today from the elusive Digger. He must have surfaced long enough to get his cards into the mail.

Received cards today from Larry & JoAnn. Thank you both. Like Larry's "old time" picture and I was just at the lights on JoAnn's card a month or so ago.

Nice timely postcard and newsletter on Currituck's plight,Byran. This is the place I discovered Harbour Lights. It would be more than a shame to take it out of the nonprofits hands. They've done an outstanding job!

Ok, here is the list of postcards that were waiting for me in my mail box when I got home yesterday after being away for two weeks.

David Hannum, I really like the sunset on this one. Thanks too for the nice pics and the narration of your trip.

Larry Nohe & family, I love this old 1918 pic of Drum Point. It looks just like my home light of Middle Bay!

Steve Ervin, two in one! Thanks!

Jo Ann Dawley, it sure is nice to get one from the West Coast, don't get many of them!

All are really nice cards, thanks folks!

I received Bryan Acree's postcard and newsletter about Currituck Beach Lighthouse today. Thank you for this newsletter.

The lighthouse should go to the OBC. They have worked hard to save and restore and care for the lighthouse.

I urge everyone to Sign the petition at: http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/

(I posted this in PCE 13 and thought it might serve well here just as a reminder).
The Round Robins appear to be going great and may "take the wind out of the sails" of the original post card exchanges (PCE), but I'd like to ask that all participants in the PCE's be considerate enough to fulfill their obligations just as the members who mailed early in the PCE's did. Cards being missing at this point can be for a multitude of valid reasons.

The round robin may have caused a stir, but my opinion is that getting 25 postcards from 25 different people over the time period of three months is still a wonderful idea with great potential.

The envelope postcard exchanges have provided people with the wonderful opportunity of adding lighthouse info, trip descriptions, brochures, maps, and other goodies to the envelope along with the postcards.

I agree with WisKeeper!

The Round Robins are fun and I will continue to enjoy them. But they cannot compare to the envelope postcard exchanges and all the goodies that come with them.

Thanks Doc John!

Are the answers solar and Whaleback?

(My albums are for lighthouse photos, mine and whoever else wants to contribute! wink )

I have been away alot the last couple months Dave so I have been delinquent with my postings and checking the boards. I've been playing catch up and was shocked and sad to read of the death of oseabee. I know he was an active contributer to these post card exchanges in the past and he will be greatly missed.

Solar power is correct for trivia question #1 Sue, but Whaleback is not the answer for #2...good guess though! They do resemble each other, but there is another which is virtually identical to Ram's Ledge! Its not a well known name but I'm sure you will find it with a little sleuthing wink I'll post the answer in a couple days if no one posts it first.

If any of you try the recipe, let me know how you like it. Its the garlic powder and butter that I think really add to the flavor. I carved 2 pumpkins tonight and I have the seeds soaking now. I can smell the garlic (I used a tablespoon of powder) even through the plastic wrap covering the bowl. I'll probably cook mine on Halloween night.

John

Gee, Patty, I figured you would take them to the post office about 5 minutes before final pickup. I hate it when you get efficient and all.

I received cards from Kaiz and Judy yesterday. Both new additions. Judy does seem to have an edge in finding unique cards, though, with her Australian trip earlier this year.

Paul, it the fast starters and the procrastinators are what make the exchanges fun. You get cards throughout the period, but it does seem that the end of the exchange always brings a major flurry of activity. If we could only figure out a way to assign mailing dates to each participant so we would get evenly spaced cards....

Dave,

Here's a simple way of doing it- the person moderating the Exchange puts the names in a hat and pulls them out and assigns a date range to each of the individuals.

You send out a preliminary list to people and they let you know if it will work for them and go from there.

About this time you are thinking - this used to be fun and say forget about it and go back to the organized chaos that existed before.

A time frame is established at the onset (in this case July 1 to Oct 31)...people send out cards within that time frame. What's the problem? Personally I think the system works fine.

I got distracted from the reason I logged on in the first place. Trivia question answers:

#1 As Sue correctly stated is "Solar Power"
#2 The twin light for Ram's Ledge is the Graves Light in Boston Harbor close to the well-known Boston Light on Little Brewster Island.

Doc,

That was my point, but I was trying to be slightly funny about it.

I would have known the answer to Question #2 if I did not have so many things on my Desktop- the picture I have as background is Graves Light that someone posted awhile back from the Boston Globe.

The Lighthouse is about 1/2 covered with icons.

While they are indeed very similar and were constructed in the same year (1905) The Graves Lighthouse seems to be the taller twin at 113' and the Ram Island Ledge Light at 72'.

I had three cards waiting for me at the mail box today. Derith Bennett, the Kaisers and Judith Rath. All great cards! Thanks! smile

As for the timeing thing: I really like these PC exchanges, but I think that 4 months is tooo long, 2 months would be better. But then that's just my opinion!
