The Post Office will be issuing a new pre-stamped post card this year, honoring Southeast Block Island. According to their info will be available in both 20 and 40 cent versions (domestic & international postage). Don't know if they are available yet. Maybe we could get some more lighthouse stamps sometime? Be a good reason for HL to start a new series. http://www.usps.gov/images/stamps/99/block_island.htm Dave

Hey Dave, ... You're the second person to notify me of the First Day Cover Stamp for Block Island. Do you have any idea when they will be issued? I spend about 40 days a summer on the Block and I wouldn't want to miss out. If I can get there on that day I'll buy extras if anyone would care to have one. I imagine they will still be for sale after that day. Keep us informed if you hear anything new on this matter. Bob PS: I just took a look at the link showing the Southeast Light Stamp. What a beauty! I think I should buy at least a hundred of those! [This message has been edited by Bob M (edited 04-14-99).]

John, lets not forget about the 1998 Wisconsin statehood stamp. And if you get the secret decoder from the USPS you will be able to see a hidden image of a Badger, the state animal. (not a joke) http://www.usps.gov/images/stamps/98/wiscons.htm

Bob,
I happened in April's Lighthouse Digest about the card so I went looking for a picture. Figured it ought to be on the post office's web site but they do good job of burying info. Didn't notice there any release dates or location but LHD says it is "coming soon". Would hope they first released it on SE Block, but with the USPO you just never know!
I wouldn't mind getting a first day cancellation if you go looking. I know someone who is a stamp collector; will see if he can help with more info.

Hi Dave, ...I hope the release is done while I'm out there. If not, I have a few friends on the island I'll ask to secure some for me. I'll try to get plenty of extras for the HL Family of Friends. Bob

Well, they snuck in the release of the SEBI Postal Cards. Anybody get a first day of issue? Maybe we can get one from the Post Office. http://www.usps.gov/news/stamps/99/99081stp.htm Dave

You can call the P.O. (800-782-6724) to set up an account and they will send you first day covers.

The Block Island Southeast Lighthouse Stamped Card with first-day-of-issue cancellation can be ordered from the U.S. Postal Service's Stamp Fulfillment Services at 1-800-STAMP-24. The item # is 229461 and the price is $0.31. The item # for uncancelled cards is 229440 and the price is $0.21. First day of issue was 7/24/99 and the first-day-of-issue cancelled card will be available for at least 1 year from that date from Stamp Fulfillment Serves.

Hey Paul, ... That card looks awfully familiar. The Block Island Post Office advised me that the cards would be available only for 30 days with the FDC cancellation from their Post Office. After that a million cards will be available but without the special cancellation. Bob

You will never pry it out of me where I got it, Bob. By the way, I did remember to thank you properly, didn't I?
Now it's a Star on the Internet Thanks Bob

Note to BobM: First Day of Issue cancellations are available from the issuing post office (Southeast Block Island, in this case) for 30 days. The same cancellation is available from the USPO's Stamp Fulfillment Services for at least 1 year. (See their Philatelic Catalog for more info.)
