Well, received my first card YESTERDAY, the first day mail was delivered this year. I have assigned Digger time in the "time out" forum (stored in the FSB) as punishment. Whatever additional punishment the FSB occupants assign is just a bonus.

His saving grace is that the card is a really neat one of White Shoals with a great history write up and bonus pic.

Dave

I got my card from Digger yesterday. That is such a beautiful light. I really need to get out to the lights in that area. The included history is a great touch.

Now Digger, don't be blue because your cards went out just a tad early, just tell Dave that as an artist, you are not always compelled to color inside the lines. And, thanks for the neat postcard!

I received Shirin's postcard today of The Tarrytown Lighthouse. Have passed by this lighthouse many, many times on my way to NJ and NY. Have always wanted to visit it and after reading Shirin's letter will definately put it on my list of lighthouses to visit this year.

Thanks for the great postcard and letter!

Well, I was just going over the Tarrytown article for the upcoming edition of the Long Island Chapter newsletter so I have my facts all ready to go for a tour.
I've actually tried to volunteer to give tours of the Tarrytown light several times now. But it doesn't seem that will happen anytime soon. I'll just have to keep trying. It is such a great light to get a tour of!

Thanks Digger, just don't pay any attention to Dave! Really like your card and info.

When can we all get together for Shirin to give us a tour of Tarrytown? Sometime this summer? Enjoyed your card and note. Keep trying, being a docent at this light sounds like great fun!

I got my postcard/ letter from Shirin today. Nice card and nicer start to Lighthousing- Tarrytown is a nice Lighthouse. Very well restored.

We may actually have been at the Lighthouse the same day. I do know that there was another Wacko there the day my wife and I were there.

Donna (DeDo) was there and we all had a nice conversation- Donna and I about HL's and Lighthouses and the three of us about our children away at college.

I've got to dig my journal out (it's buried under things moved for Christmas) and check the date I was at Tarrytown.

Here's a question for Shirin- was there a person on your tour who had a t-shirt of Tarrytown that day? I had one one and the Guide was surprised because he had never seen one before.

Received Shirin's nice postcard and writeup on Tarrytown on Friday.

Derith--How about a tour before/after the Spring regional event in NJ?

Ok Dennis, I've pulled out the first of many lighthouse scrapbooks for this one. My first Tarrytown tour was on February 26th 2000 and boy was it cold! It was even a bit on the misty wet side that day. Thankgoodness they served hot apple cider once we were inside the lighthouse. The tourguide for that day was a gentleman by the name of Christopher Letts.
The 2nd tour was in September of 2000 on a beautiful sunny day. That time I ended up doing quite a bit of talking (a felt like a tour guide myself)during the tour. George Appleyard was the tour guide and since he had just taken over the position and wasn't 100% on his lighthouse facts he passed all the questions on to me.
Could this be where I get the drive to go all the way down to Sandy Hook just to play tour guide?
Not sure if that clears up the mystery if we were there on the same day or not. But it was a great chance to go back though all my scrapbooks! Thanks Dennis,

shirin

Thanks Digger and Shirin. Great post cards! I can't wait to get the rest of them. This is a great idea, wished I had gotten on a list earlier. Now to find a real unusual one.

Yes, just quite whining or I won't let you dig up anything for a while.

Great card, Shirin - thanks. See folks, not only do you get great post cards but you get true life confessions of how someone got entrapped in the world of lighthousing and a little history to top it all off! Only thing better is to be able to do the lighthousing in person!

I've received some wonderful and different lighthouse postcards in PC Exchange #8. Many thanks to all who have sent them so far.

I haven't started to send mine out for PC-8 yet. I'm still debating what kind of little surprise I may put in the envelope with the card. Last time I put a "First Day Issue of Southeast Light, Block Island USPS blank postcard with the SE Light stamp and postmark" in with the post card. This time I might........(you'll have to wait and see!)

THANKS, LORIE for the lovely postcard of the Kilauea Lighthouse and the accompanying information sheet. I have the HL LE.
How nice that you were able to spend Thanksgiving in Kauai.
Since I'm not planning any trips to exotic places, my post card will come from Florida.

Thank you to everyone who has sent me a postcard for PC Exchange #8. I've received some very different and super cards!

Today, I will be mailing my envelopes for PC#8. I've put a little extra something in each envelope for all those participating in this exchange.

I have also written a two-digit number on the lower left corner of your envelope. I have recorded that number so I know who has each number. The numbers range from 01 to 26. Remember that number if you want to participate in my contest.

I will start a separate thread explaining what you need to do to win and what the prizes will be once I figure everyone has received their envelope.

Stay tuned!

Bob

I received Bob M's card and extras today. Between the great postcard and the extras I haven't seen any of those lights in person. The postcard is a great preview for the NELL trip to Martha's Vineyard in May. Thanks Bob.

Thanks for the extras, and I patiently await your contest.

I used my latest trip to pick up cards to send out and hope to do so shortly.

Thanks for the great West Coast Card JoAnn. I'm very jealous of that view you have from the condo! Hopefully one of these days I will get out that way. The card makes a great addition to my collection.

Thanks JoAnn for the wonderful postcard. I always smile when a new card arrives for a light I have never seen. Makes me want to visit. So many lights so little time. I jealous of your view although anything along the Columbia River is great.

Bob, I liked the extras in your envelope. You also send such nice surprises. Thanks.

Sorry I'm a little late in posting the particulars about my impromptu contest for those folks who signed up for postcard exchange #8. I'm still working on what each participant must do to win. I will probably put you through a couple of steps to qualify which will probably eliminate a good percentage of the people. Then I will finally use a state lottery to choose the the final winner(s). That way there no one will have any control over who the winner might be. It will be the luck of the lottery.

Prizes:

The first prize winner will have the choice of either a "Bob Younger Memorial Tree" issued by HL in 1999, or a 2002 Harbour Lights Calendar (still sealed, never opened). Remember you can only choose one of these items as your prize.

The second prize winner will receive their choice of a package containing ten different lighthouse postcards, or twenty 4"x6" photos of twenty different lighthouses from the New England area (all photos taken by me over the past several years).

Remember, you must follow my instructions to participate. You will need to visit this thread to find out what to do to stay in the running. You will need to visit the Harbour Lights website for a clue. You will need to email me at biri97@aol.com to let me know you found the clue and to get your number into the contest (number on the lower left corner of the envelope I sent you). Do not post the clue at the CF. Everyone must work to find it, then email me with the clue and your entry number. I will send you a reply and post the numbers of those who are in the contest. You will have one week to complete your tasks before I let you know which state lottery will determine the winner(s).

Good luck, and watch this thread for further instructions.

Bob

Okay...the first required clue is in place.

A visit to www.harbourlights.com is required of you,
To find a five digit number that was left as a clue.
It won't be difficult to find this clue of this game,
My hint would be to look for a name.

Once you find the number, email me same,
So you can continue to be in the game.

Good luck!

I've been asked to move my contest from this thread into a new thread so this one will remain true to the topic. Sounds like a good idea to me.

All further information relating to the contest will be in the Anchor Bay thread. That way I can control the posts as moderator just in case someone posts somehting the rest of the contestants are suppose to search for.

See you at the Anchor Bay thread!

I loved your card Bob S. And to answer your question on your enclosed note...yes, I've seen that light it was #88. I got the special penny as well! I hope that while you were in the area you got to see the Rear Range Light as well. It is tucked away in a private community but if you ask nicely the guards will let you in.

Many thanks to those from PC #8 that keep coming up with different postcards to send. I think I've got more different postcards in PC #8 than the past seven exchanges.

Received card from Bob S today. A great reminder of trip I took last summer. Thanks!
