Dave,
I'm a little confused.
Should I post responses here or on Anchor Bay? JoanieO

This thread is the right one for PC#8 Exchange. The contest info is all posted in the Anchor Bay thread. I apologize if I caused any confusion when I first announced the contest in this thread.

LI Bob probably is wondering if anyone received his vacation card. Yes, Bob, it arrived here safely. Maybe we need to organize a road trip to see the light this is named after?

I just got Joanie O's card. Thanks for a great Florida light to add to my collection. The article you enclosed as well looks interesting. I'll have to read over it tonight with a cup of tea.

Thanks Joan!

Got a fantastic card from the Toth's today - unbelievable colors. It is the second card of Kilauea in this exchange! (Is there a theme here?) Really neat thing is that the 2 cards (other one from Lori) do show two completely different views of the light, one a ground level perspective, the other an arial shot.

Dave you're right. That is a great card from the Toths. Thank you Gary and Kay. Your sister picked out a fantastic view of the light. The card and letter have already found their place in the postcard binder I set up for the cards I receive in the exchanges on the forum.

Thanks again,

shirin

Joanie's Florida card and article also showed up here today. Great card, and interesting article.

What I have come to really enjoy about the "in envelope" exchanges are the histories, articles or personal stories about the lights shown on the cards. I think they make the exchange a lot more fun, and we often learn a little more about the lights.

Just wanted to chime in. Been a busy couple of months and have not had the luxury of checking into the forums. In reading everyone's it appears I have received all of them so far. Mine are almost ready. Hope folks will like my little surprise. I am new to this, so I have waited a while to get mine out so I can see how this whole wonderful exchange works. Lots of fun so far!

We will all be looking forward to your cards, Sanibel.

Got great cards of Raspeberry Island from Suzanne. This is a really neat light in the Apostle Islands. We visited there a few years back when we travelled the south shore of Lake Superior. For those who have summers free, they have live-in keepers in the summer months!

Thanks for the Raspberry Island cards Suzanne. I traded for a pin of Raspberry Island at the HL Reunion in Baltimore. It's nice to receive some information on the lighthouse.

It's great seeing those postcards coming in! Thanks to Suzanne for the Raspberry Island Light cards and to Patty & Mike for the Ponce de Leon card.

I'm ready to start a third album for my postcards. It's really great to get cards depicting lights I've never seen before.

Also received Ron's 3 cards packaged in the wonderful New London envelope. Was very impressed with the Minot's Ledge card. One would not think tourists would want a Minot's Ledge postcard, but maybe there are more lighthouse enthusiats than I thought.

Over the past week or so I received:

from Ron - 3 very nice postcards of Boston Light, Avery Point and Minots Ledge

from Kay - a beautiful postcard of Kilauea Lighthouse

from Suzanne - two exquisite postcards of Raspberry Island Lighthouse

from Joan - a wonderful postcard of Sanibel Island

These postcards make me wish I could take a trip to all of these lighthouses - now!!! LOL!

Should be seeing a lighthouse this weekend and plan on getting my postcards then!

Two more postcards today.

Bodie Island from Eileen & Dave Dunlap and Saugerties from Jim Johnson. Both cards are great as well as the included histories.
I've been to both of these lights and did not pick up a postcard of either one. Thanks all to filling in my collection.

I hit the trifecta today.

I got the Bodie card from the Dunlaps (and I'm going make my call from the NJLHS Meeting tomorrow), the Saugerties card from Jim Johnson and the three cards from Ron Foster.

Not a bad haul in one day.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the wonderful cards. I returned home yesterday and found ten cards (from both exchanges) in my mailbox. It was a great surprise to find so many.

Just wanted to let you know my postcards will be in the mail soon. It was just too expensive to mail them from overseas. Hope you all enjoy.

Shirin,

They did a great job. We got to see the Keeper's house after the Meeting this past Saturday.

It was raining pretty hard when i got there so i did not get a chance to take too many pictures outside. Inside it would have been pictures of people- it was wall to wall with NJLHS Members

It's much bigger than i expected from the foundation I saw previously.

Thanks for the update Dennis. I wanted to go to the meeting so I would see the new keepers quarters but when your business has a conference in Cincinnati the same weekend, something has to give. I might try next weekend to make it down that way.

I finally got my cards from Ron - trying to read the cancellation, it looked like mailed 9 March, received in Indiana 19 March - 10 days. Also got a card from a friend in Australia which only took 6 days to arrive - go figure.

Also got Linda's Absecon card & info. More new additions for the collection, along with lots of great info! Thanks, Ron & Linda

Hey Dennis - I did everything I could to try to get in a lighthouse while away but, Cincinatti is nowhere near one. Not knowing if I would be able to see one as our planes landed in Cleveland or Detroit, I insisted on having the window seat on each flight. No luck there, but I did find an Ohio postcard in the Cleveland airport with a tiny picture of the Marblehead lighthouse on it. The rest of the postcard had pictures of other things found in Ohio. And the airport in Detroit had a few lighthouse items in one of the shops. As my boyfriend says, I can find a lighthouse anywhere.

Shirin,

Anybody who could mange to get to as many lightouses as you have in the amount of time you did it proves you long ago earned the title Wacko.

I'm sure you could find something lighthouse related in the middle of North Dakota.

I received Linda's Absecon Lighthouse stamped postcard and letter today.

Yes, Dave, my envelope from Ron is postmarked March 9th and I received it in Wisconsin on March 19th. It must have been stuck in a post office x-ray machine for several days.

It took six days for Ron'd postcards to get from CT to NJ.

Problem must have been at the CT end of the trip.

Dennis,

I could have delivered them in one day myself. I agree that there is no justification for raising the price to mail a letter. The service just gets worse. How about they concentrate on trimming the fat and streamlining the process.

Sorry it took so long Dennis.

I just opened up the wonderful Absecon card, brochure and note from Linda Manning. It is extra special as the back of the post card was stamped by the folks at Absecon with the official lighthouse stamp. Very Nice Touch!!
Thanks to all, this continues to be much fun.

Ron,

Not to argumentative, but I don't agree with you about the US Postal Service.

I have very few problems with my mail- that's why your cards stand out in my mind.

I'd say 99% of the mail goes without any problem- of course 80% of the mail you get you don't ask for.

I don't want to pay more, but I can understand the need for it. The USPS can't pick and choose it's rates as UPS, etc can.
