George,
Over the years, this lighthouse has been identified by at least three different names. The lighthouse was originally named for the pass it guarded. It sustained damage during the civil war and at a later date the keeper’s quarters were destroyed by a hurricane.. A private party purchased the light and after renovation, it was relit as a private aid to navigation and renamed for the closest channel. Locals sometimes refer to the light as St. Jo Light. It's on a small privately owned island and only accessible by boat.
Sorry it’s a postcard you already have.

It's not identical , as there is obvious differences in the buildings (paint, time, etc) and the format is slightly different. It is a welcome addition to my collection, THANKS!

I received Tom and Joyce's card in yesterday's mail, today. (Don't even ask!)

It surely is a new card for me and have no other versions of it. I agree with Randy. Aerials are neat cards as they give a better idea of the layout of the lightstation.

Thanks for a great card! smile

All my cards are going out in todays mail. All are the same and I hope it's a new card for most of you.

This card is for all you red lighthouse lovers. smile

This is also a special card for me because it is the last place I went on a trip with my dad this past Thanksgiving before he passed away in January.

Tom and Joyce, thanks for the neat card. Tell me the best way to get there. Of course, this "Pixie" loves arial photos. George, thanks for your custom made postcard. Remembering the trips to that light brought a big smile to my face.

Thanks Dave for letting me in late.

Lorie I received your card yesterday also, very nice card of a rather unique lighthouse. Thanks! smile My neighbor's son-in-law, grandson and a group of other Boy Scouts recently returned from a trip to the area where they spent time aboard a 78' sailboat and got to see the same lighthouse. Supposedly they took photos of it with their new digital camera. When they figure out how to do it I'm supposed to be getting a photo of it emailed to me.

My cards for this exchange went in the mail today. When you receive them you will note that each card sent (to forum members) includes a lucky number. In a week or so, when hopefully everyone's received their card, there will be a drawing for a special prize! smile

Received Mombo's card today. Really neat picture and great comments. Also thought the lucky clover was a nice touch. The combination of the Irish lighthouse, green ink, and lucky clover made for a very nice theme. Could this be coincidence or could it have something to do with an upcoming day for the wearing of the green?

George, check your card. There are three digits, and the last two digits of the winning number are 95.

This should narrow the field down to just four people. Tune in later today for the Final Four winner! smile

Ok we have a winner! The first digit is 4 so the winning number is 495.

That number belongs to none other than our fearless webmaster, St. John! I'll be sending out his prize in a couple of days. When he returns from the regional in FL he can tell you what he won.

Nice touch Sue! A great card, a little contest, and a St Paddy's celebration without using an envelope. Got quite a few smiles from me Sue while hoisting a Harp to you last night.

Wow! What a prize!!!

Talk about the 'Luck of the English'!!

An all-expense paid trip to Ireland to view 36 of that country's beautiful lighthouses. (Ireland also has another 46 lighthouses not on the itinerary.)

Thanks Mombo. The guide book arrived. I think the air tickets and hotel vouchers fell out in the mail, but I'm really looking forward to making this trip!

John Eagle was the photographer of the postcard I sent out. I got a real deal on them at the Lighthouse Depot last June. Unfortunately it was the only one they had.

http://indigo.ie/~eaglejr/Postcards.html

The prize that John received was Sharma Krauskopf's "Irish Lighthouses". Some time ago I purchased the book along with her "Scotish Lighthouses" book. Then later I received a second copy of the Irish book as a gift so I decided to combine the post card exchange with passing on the gift book. The photos in these books are beautiful. The Krauskopfs bought a lighthouse in Scotland some years ago.

I got a set of Irish Lighthouse postcards by John Eagle on ebay. Expensive but worth it. I also received a personally autographed book by John Eagle from the same company from their ebay store,. I know there's someone else on the Forum that was bidding vs me. I think we were both were able after a time to get them at a reserve price that was a 20% discount from the Ireland JE price and didn't have to pay the international postage.

The more Dave complains about the mail service the slower his seems to get. Maybe it's that east central location of his, or was that north central or west central???? What can he expect from a place that doesn't spring ahead like most of us? confused

Actually, Sue, the major problems have involved the east coast around NYC. Mail to Shirin, Sanddollar and from Dennis all took >10 days. To/from Lorie is not usually a problem. And to think, the USPS is talking about wanting another rate increase even as their service gets worse and worse. Seems as though the more they automate the more problems they have. Thier biggest problem is that they need to peel off multiple layers of middle management and pretty much dump their upper management in favor of people who understand customer service and don't look for every possible way to hose the public.

* * * end of unsollicited commentary * * *
