I'm new to all this. I found a Morris Is. Then and Now. Both have the same serial number. That's a matched set right, or is there something else I need to check? Thanks!

You've got yourself a matched set. Make sure the boxes are also numbered correctly to match the lights. Technically, the two individual boxes were also placed in a larger overall plain brown box with the 2 stickers and serial number written on it to keep the matched pieces together, you probably should try and get the larger box also to be 100% authentic. The value of original boxes has always been debated between collectors. It's a personal preference of the collector, but is always a good idea when possible

I hope I can get the big box, but it won't be a show stopper. Was every set sent as a matched set or how did that work.
Thanks for you reply. I'm new to HL collecting. Joining the society tomorrow morning.

The original intent was to be the first 4000 or so shipped as matched sets. I believe they still shipped out more matched sets as time went on (possibly close to all?) I have seen matched sets in the 6000's. Some stores broke sets up themselves, even earlier ones, so it will be impossible to say how many are matched and not matched. St. John of MUDD may have a better figure.

Good work on getting a matched set. I haven't been as fortunate yet. I checked with every dealer in my area and had a hard time just finding both pieces. Still I wanted both pieces for my display regardless and had to settle for mixed numbers (so far). Can't have one without the other.

For Morris Island Then/Now, matched number sets, check the Retired@Retail service.
