Dear all,

my favorite lighthouse is celebrating its 100th anniversary next year and I was choosen to create the anniversary postcard. I am thinking of having a postcard which shows the lighthouse how it looks today and how it was looking 100 years ago. If anyone of you has any examples of postcards like that in your collection, I would be very happy if you could show it here, so that work would be little bit easier for me.

Sorry Iris, despite a big collection of lighthouse post cards, we don't seem to have a card like that.
But what a good idea !! Are you going to tell us which lighthouse you are going to celebrate, or is that a secret?

The Long Island Challenge did a whole set of cards last year for participants. Give me a few days and I'll scan and email you some examples. Basically, they have a current photo as the main picture and a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 " picture in the upper right corner of the old postcard. It also has a 'Then & Now' to the left of the insert.

If memory serves, I believe Avery Point sent me one that showed an old picture, before restoration and after restoration. I will see if I can find it.

Last year my home lighthouse, Mukilteo, celebrated their 100th year of light and I had the honor of designing the centennial coin. On one side we had the lighthouse and on the other side we had the fresnel lens. That might also look nice on a postcard--one half the lighthouse and the other half the lens.
